Half an apartment without a toilet and other ridiculous gifts to veterans from officials

The most important holiday of May is approaching - May 9! This Great Victory holiday is the most important for our veterans. On the eve of May 9, it is customary to organize memorable meetings with veterans, listen to their stories, organize concerts with the reading of poems from the war years and the performance of war songs, and give memorable souvenirs, postcards, and flowers.

On Victory Day, each of the Russian people is visited by some kind of festive, patriotic mood. Celebratory columns are held on the central avenues of any city, schoolchildren and cadets prepare an entertainment program for our dear veterans. Anyone can taste porridge in the field kitchen and lay flowers at the eternal flame in memory of the fallen heroes.

Concerts are organized for veterans, some are invited to watch the parade on Red Square. At such events, participants and disabled people of the Second World War are given flowers, cards, gift medals, and food packages. Veterans receive a small cash gift and a letter of congratulations from the government.

In many cities, before May 9, schoolchildren make holiday cards and drawings and hang them at the entrance to each entrance. Anyone who comes in sees these cute drawings and feels joy and pride in their soul. And how pleasant such an initiative is for our elderly veterans!

Naturally, on this festive May day, all attention is directed and focused on WWII veterans. Unfortunately, every year there are fewer and fewer of them, so devote time to them not only on May 9, but also simply, for no reason, they really appreciate your attention. Be sure to give flowers to a WWII participant, this will express your respect.

Flowers for May 9

Traditionally, on May 9, carnations and tulips and red flowers are given as a symbol of innocent blood shed in war. In addition, carnation is the flower of masculinity and courage, perseverance and courage, the flower of winners! It’s not for nothing that they last in vases longer than all other flowers, reminiscent of the bright Victory Day. Tulips, the word for rockets, pointing their buds upward, remind us of the brave exploits of our grandfathers and grandmothers, symbolizing pride and joy.

Flowers you can give are red roses, lilies, chrysanthemums, which evoke warmth, irises and forget-me-nots, symbolizing the clear blue sky above your head. In May, fragrant lilacs bloom, which can also be given to a veteran. The main thing is that you pay attention when choosing flowers and thinking about the composition; in any case, older people will be pleased.

When planning to congratulate a WWII participant on May 9, think carefully about what he would like to receive.

Chocolate

Chocolate is often given as a gift for any occasion, and for the elderly, even a small surprise is already a holiday. However, sweet gifts for Victory Day must be chosen carefully, since older people can suffer from rather unpleasant ailments that impose their own limitations.

For example, a veteran with diabetes will not be able to take a standard bar of this treat. Therefore, it is worth buying dark chocolate products, and best of all, additionally stocking up on fructose-based sweets.

List of gifts that can be given to a veteran on Victory Day:

  1. Flowers and a card are sacred;
  2. A collection of old films on disk - usually old people love Soviet films and wait for them to be broadcast on TV, and so they can turn on their favorite picture at any time;
  3. Music album with old songs. You can find out the veteran’s favorite performers and give an album of your favorite singer;
  4. A collage of old photographs that can be hung on the wall;
  5. Sweet gift - sweets, delicious cookies, tea and coffee in gift wrapping;
  6. A cake made to order from fondant with a St. George ribbon, for example, or with some kind of thematic picture;
  7. A grocery set with delicacies, usually older people do not indulge themselves with delicacies, so let them enjoy the delicacies. There you can put raw smoked sausage, a jar of caviar, delicious cheese, red fish, condensed milk, sweets, canned pineapples and peaches and other products of your choice that the veteran will like;
  8. A bottle of good cognac or vodka, wine. Any WWII participant will appreciate it, and even if he doesn’t drink, there will be something to treat his relatives and friends to;
  9. Money is not the best gift, no matter how strange it may sound. Not all older people need money, and such a surprise is unlikely to be remembered. But you can give it as a gift if you are not closely acquainted with the veteran, beautifully packaged in a gift envelope.
  10. A gift certificate, for example, for ordering new glasses, visiting a doctor, or for a vacation in a sanatorium. Using the certificate, you can also make a purchase in any store, for example, household appliances or furniture, at a pharmacy, or sign up for a free subscription to your favorite printed publication.

  14. Interior item - a painting, a figurine, a table lamp, a clock with the symbols of Victory Day;
  15. Individual technical devices: electric razor, electronic blood pressure measuring device, glucometer, and other devices for maintaining health. Give a convenient and modern landline phone with multiple handsets and bases so that older people don't have to run to the other room to get the phone when it rings.
  16. Loungewear, especially if you are a close relative of a veteran, you know exactly what the elderly person likes to wear and what they need. You can buy a tracksuit, a robe, comfortable sweatpants, T-shirts, warm sweaters, pajamas, cozy slippers;
  17. Houseplant, flower in a pot, mini-tree with fruits.

Remember conversations with a veteran, perhaps he mentioned what he needed or wanted, and then you won’t have to guess what to give as a gift.

When choosing a gift, take into account the hobbies, interests, and interests of the WWII participant. Maybe your veteran likes to read certain books, collect coins or something similar, or maybe he likes to embroider or knit.

It is best to give gifts at lunchtime, when your hero of the day has already watched the festive parade, when the guests have gathered and the feast has begun. Just keep in mind that on Victory Day, feelings of joy, pride and sorrow are closely intertwined with each other, so choose a moment for congratulations when we are not talking about fallen comrades and sad memories.

I would like to tell you a little about my grandfather Alexey Alekseevich Zemlyanov, a veteran and disabled person of the Great Patriotic War, who is now 90 years old. From start to finish, he went through a journey that gives you goosebumps and breaks out cold sweat. He served in the Red Banner Baltic Fleet on the base minesweeper T-220, and was the commander of a radio operator squad.

Together with a team of brave sailors, he sailed the expanses of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland, searching for and neutralizing sea mines, organizing the passage of ships through minefields. I felt the hardships of besieged Leningrad on my own skin, but never gave up and shared my rations with starving people.

May 9 is a holy day for us. It is not even discussed what we will do - naturally, congratulate our beloved and only veteran, organize a feast. Since our grandfather can hardly walk with the help of crutches, everyone comes to his house: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, former colleagues from work, friends and comrades. A noisy company gathers, the grandfather shares war memories, everyone sings old war songs with a guitar.

Electric blanket

Such an unusual item would be very appropriate in the home of an elderly person. An electric blanket is used to quickly heat the bed, which means it will allow the veteran to be in more comfortable conditions.

Considering that blood circulation noticeably deteriorates with age and older people begin to freeze much more, this special bedding can bring additional health benefits.

Another gift option for a veteran

Elderly people who fought during the war often do not recognize modern technology; they do not like laptops, tablets and other gadgets. At such a respectable age, arthritis is already sharpening the joints, the fingers are difficult to obey, but not everyone loses their creative fervor and thirst for life.

That's how it is with my grandfather. It’s already hard to write, but he began to rivet his memoirs on a rare typewriter that he had. Recently, its service life apparently came to an end and he had nothing to create with. Then the idea came to my mind that it was necessary to give him a new typewriter, which would be easy and convenient to type on. Here's an idea for a useful and necessary gift that an elderly disabled person is unlikely to buy for himself.

For another anniversary of Victory Day, we presented a metal model of the Pobeda car, which my grandfather drove in the post-war years, which I myself managed to ride with him.

I adore my grandfather and am proud of him! You feel such great gratitude when you think that millions like him defended our Motherland, shed blood, sacrificed their lives so that we could live with a clear sky above our heads.

In this photo, my grandfather is with my son, his great-grandson.

WWII participants appreciate your genuine interest in the events of the war years. They will be pleased to tell you stories from the past, not surprisingly, but they remember war times to the smallest detail. Be sure to ask the veteran to wear his jacket or jacket with orders and medals. I think everyone will be interested in looking at the veteran’s awards and asking why he received them. And for an elderly person this will be the best gift, the realization that they are interested in him, they remember him, respect him, and are proud of his contribution to the future of the Motherland.

Many thanks to our veterans! To those who are alive, we wish you health and long life. To the fallen heroes who gave their lives for peace on our land, eternal memory.

Grocery basket

Unfortunately, very often elderly people are very strapped for money. There may not be enough money not only to buy delicacies, but also to buy simple products.

An excellent, and most importantly useful, gift for a veteran would be a whole basket of various food items: canned food, cereals, cheeses, fruits, vegetables and sausages. Such a set will bring a lot of joy to people who are accustomed to living in restrictions.

Art objects, interior decorations

A memorable souvenir placed in the interior will not get lost among things, and will remind the veteran of the love and gratitude of loved ones. For example, these could be wall decorations that have a deep meaning.

Wall clock with the image of the Kremlin star

It is these red beacons that were and remain the symbol of the main city. Such a souvenir is a reminder of the resilience of people. The emblem of the country and the Chimes, which struck the last minutes before the Great Victory, are connected here. In the interior, the clock will remind of the great joy of the people and the victorious fireworks.

Panel depicting the Order of the Patriotic War

The first and highest award of the past war, imprinted in Swarovski crystals, is a valuable interior souvenir. Fine workmanship, splendor of iridescent edges, hand-made beauty of execution. The order, enclosed in a frame, will serve as a reminder of the exploits of the soldiers and will decorate any room.

Model of the legendary car POBEDA

This is a very nice gift not only for collectors, but also for any veteran. Every veteran remembers this car very clearly on the day of the celebration of the Victory of the Second World War, so with such a gift you can touch him to the depths of his soul.

The publication

But if your grandparents are still far from modern technical innovations and are unlikely to get carried away by watching movies from a disc or via USB, then you shouldn’t deprive them of a pleasant evening watching them. You can give them tickets to the theater for a good classical or modern production, to a concert of your favorite performers, or to the cinema, where military films are always shown on May 9th.

Don’t be lazy and take them to their destination – it’s not good for veterans to use public transport on such a day.

A set of good tea

If a veteran tends to save on everything, it’s worth pleasing him with a set of good quality tea. Typically, older people avoid strong and highly tonic drinks such as coffee, but few people will refuse a cup of delicious tea.

A good alternative would be a restorative herbal mixture, the use of which will have a positive effect on your well-being.

Photo memories

This idea, it would seem, lies on the surface. What could be better in old age than bright and joyful memories of youth, friendship at the front, first friends and first love? Today, manufacturers offer a huge variety of photo frames with the ability to create entire collages from your favorite photographs.

You, too, can give your grandparents your own photo story by restoring and retouching old and beloved photographs. They will definitely take pride of place in the collection of family heirlooms.
