The school's anniversary can become a grandiose unifying celebration on a city scale. To do this, you need to try and create a bright, multifaceted event. It is up to you to attract the attention of city authorities, local channels and bloggers.
I will not risk drawing up some kind of universal scenario, since one school is only 5 years old, and the other will celebrate its 70th anniversary. Some people have 50 students in all classes together, while in the Moscow region we have schools with only 33 first grades. There are not enough letters for the name.
Naturally, organizational features will be different for everyone. In any case, you will have to collect the most suitable ideas bit by bit, since there are no ready-made scripts for all occasions on the Internet.
I periodically update this article in moments of inspiration. I always ask site visitors to do the same! If while reading you were inspired and came up with something unusual and interesting, please write in the comments. Let the anniversaries of all schools be creative, bright and memorable!

When to start preparing
This is a very important question. Alas, often the idea of holding a holiday week for the school’s birthday comes spontaneously. The event is not so spectacular, there are few rehearsals, preparation takes place against the backdrop of general fatigue and a high level of stress. For what?
Appoint one main organizer and a couple of deputies. Write down all the ideas and make preparation and summary schedules. It is important to collect the best works for the final exhibition and final concert, and for this it is necessary to conduct qualifying rounds in all directions on time.
We give at least two weeks to prepare creative competitions. A week to sum up the results and award the winners. Another week - to assemble concert numbers and design an exhibition of the best works.
A series of events for the school's anniversary
Naturally, you can limit yourself to only an official event and a festive concert. If you have the strength and desire, think over a big anniversary week with different events for all the parallels.
Creative competitions
From the ideas that I described above, you can choose the most suitable and easiest to implement.
It would be more interesting if each parallel held its own competition. Let there be a lot of drawings, crafts, installations, unusual art objects, essays, poems, flash mobs, etc. We collect the best works and arrange them as an exhibition on the day of the final event.
Excursions
If the school is from a company, for example, organize a tour there. Or one of the graduates has become a well-known businessman in the city and is ready to inspire high school students. Or maybe your school has a person after whom it is named: a writer, war hero, scientist, etc., think of interesting and useful excursions to memorable places.
General cleanup, landscaping, tree planting
This is also an important stage in preparation for the anniversary.
Naturally, this festive event is held on a weekend. Let there be a lot of upbeat music, a table with tea and biscuits, a street concert or characters in costumes. Involve parents, children and teachers. Let young fir trees and maples with “30th Anniversary” signs appear in a clean school yard, bushes along the fence, or just flowers in a flower bed.
If the holiday is in winter, dedicate the day to indoor plants and cleanliness in the classrooms.
Class events, scientific conferences, school competitions dedicated to the anniversary
Educational moment.
Prepare interesting presentations about the history of the school and its successful alumni so that children in the classrooms can understand the importance of the event. This is especially impressive if your school is elderly. It is important to convey to every student that he, too, has a chance to glorify the school throughout the city, country, or even the whole world.
In the award certificates, be sure to indicate that the Olympiad was dedicated to such and such an anniversary of the school.
Big sports festival
Let it be a huge event in every sense.
With sports marches from the very morning, general formation, interesting relay races for all age groups, marathons, races, bike rides, chess and checkers tournaments. Prepare cheerleaders and girls cheerleaders with pom-poms. Shouts, squeakers, flags. A beautiful award ceremony, the final launch of balloons or firecrackers with confetti. It would be nice to involve parents, former graduates and guests of the city in the competition, but all this, apparently, will happen after the final victory over the coronavirus.
Charity fair
I really like such events.
At the school where my son studied, children and parents anxiously awaited the annual fair and surprisingly actively took part in its holding. The idea is that you need to bring crafts and treats (gingerbreads, handmade candies) for sale. And also take with you some amount of money with which you could buy something from others. The photo shows my beaded letters and gingerbread cookies in the package. Only Vova and I traded for 2 thousand, and the class actually earned a lot of money)).
You announce in advance where the money will go. This could be a shelter for homeless animals, helping a family, buying gifts for lonely elderly people. Any good deed in honor of the school's anniversary.
Intellectual tournament
Games like “What? Where? When?”, “Quizzes”, “Smart Men and Women”, quizzes on topics (one round is dedicated to the history of the school and the anniversary). In many schools such games are held regularly; it is a wonderful tradition. We prepare in advance, select questions, organize all sorts of musical and tea breaks. Don't forget white shirts and bow ties for the elite club of connoisseurs. Everything is like adults!
Culinary battles
This is already a battle between parents. We cook at home, take photos, shoot videos, and bring them to our classroom for a festive tea party. Naturally, it should be an anniversary cake or anniversary cupcakes. Or a photo competition on your social networks for the most beautiful decoration for a tea party in the classroom (here you can decorate it with chic ready-made paper decorations, look at the selections for candy bar on Pinterest).
Final concert
Here you need to think through the program very well. In my youth, drawn-out school concerts were called Chinese)). Apparently, they meant long numbers that would only be interesting to watch for the parents of young performers. It's not necessary.
Include only bright mass performances in the event script. It would be nice to add a prepared performance by parents, young teachers and graduates of previous years with small numbers like the “Greeting” competition in KVN. The total duration of the concert is no more than 60 minutes.
Let there be many more songs with movements, mass costumed skits, and dance numbers performed by children of different ages. It is better to avoid reading poetry one at a time, playing musical instruments and performing solo vocals.
Naturally, it is important to provide high-quality sound equipment and beautifully decorate the stage.
Here is an example of a song that would work well for such a concert. Igor Krutoy “Draw this world.”
What each class can prepare
Let me remind you that in each parallel you can announce your own competition. Somewhere there are drawings, somewhere else there are photographs, crafts. Some prepare comic five-minute numbers like KVN, some classes are tasked with preparing a sports festival, others - a dance flash mob, etc. For a large school this is a good option.
It is also very important to photograph and display all work on social networks, on the school portal and on the school website in the news. Let every child be glad that his work is seen by many people. Don’t forget to come up with hashtags (for example #80years_school_125) so that you can easily find all the stages of preparation for the holiday. Such encouragement works flawlessly in our time and stimulates activity and interest in the event.
If you suddenly want to make the school’s anniversary themed (for example, in the spring of 2021 the event was connected with Gagarin’s flight into space and all the ideas turned out to be on a truly cosmic scale - from the decoration of the hall to the awards), look through the calendar of big dates and other anniversaries that the whole country celebrates. Here I have collected themed holidays, in case something catches your eye. And here are some more unusual calendar holidays.
Now I will list the ideas, choose the most suitable ones for yourself.
Exhibition of unusual bouquets for the school anniversary
I think it’s better to organize this in primary schools, since parents will also get involved in creating beauty there. Flowers can be made from natural materials, pasta, paper, plastic bottles, disposable tableware, etc. There are bouquets made of beads, lids, even soft toys. Let there be a large and beautiful exhibition of a wide variety of flowers and bouquets; let’s not limit our imagination.
Competition of logos (symbols, mascots) for the school anniversary
I always liked it when each country came up with some kind of mascot for the Olympic Games. If your school doesn't have such a character yet, announce a competition. The talisman can be drawn, sewn, knitted, glued from felt or natural materials, made into a sculpture from airy plasticine, etc. All options are accepted. By the way, our school has a symbol - the Wise Cricket.
Large postcard
This is also an art competition that can already be held in middle and high schools. The minimum postcard size is A3. More is possible if someone knows how. Creativity is also encouraged here. You can simply draw a postcard, make it in the form of an applique from paper, dry leaves, or lay out a mosaic. Please decorate the congratulation itself, encrypt it, use an unusual font, etc.
Photo zones (many photo zones)
Instead of a giant postcard, you can come up with and equip a place for a photo shoot.
This is no longer just a background, but also some accessories and objects. For example, three-dimensional figures made of cardboard half the size of a person (how old the school is). Some inflatable foil toys or numbers, large paper flowers or polygonal shapes. Each class can make their own themed photo zone and congratulate their school with a series of photos on social networks.
Here I have a lot of ideas for creating a photo zone, get inspired! There are people who know how to make beauty out of nothing. Cheap and very effective. Here's more about photo zones, letters and numbers for photo shoots. And aeromosaic.
Photo project
It’s difficult, but everyone who participated in our school had the most pleasant impressions.
This is really interesting! Pick up an image from an old or modern painting and try to repeat it. Ekaterina Rozhdestvenskaya has been doing such a photo project for many years, I think you can imagine what we’re talking about. In the photo - my son in the form of a young flutist. I made a lace collar for him from lace paper doilies. Well, isn't that great? Let such characters from different eras congratulate the school.
The best works can not only be published on social networks, but also printed for exhibition on the day of the final concert.
Exhibition of historical footage
The idea is suitable for schools with a rich history.
Find and beautifully design old Soviet black and white photographs, graduation albums, footage of school concerts, etc. Putting together such a photo exhibition is difficult, but quite possible. Moms and dads of your students could also study at this school 30-50 years ago, and they will share their favorite photos for the sake of the school’s anniversary. Make cardboard mats of the same color, so the exhibition will immediately acquire a decent look.
If the history of your school is not so rich, organize a photo project “Beauty around” or “Favorite School”. Let the children find something pleasing to the eye in the schoolyard, in their classroom, in the cafeteria. They will take portraits of classmates, capture flowers on the windowsill or in the flowerbed at the entrance, photograph a spread in their notebook with beautiful lines or an “A” in math.
Everyone also really likes portraits like “Me and my mom in 3rd grade.” In this case, you just need a mother’s photo of a third-grader next to a photo of her daughter at the same age, there is no connection to exactly one school.
Unusual hobbies of teachers, parents and children
I once saw such an exhibition.
It was amazing! Surprising, delightful and educational. Many children were surprised by the exhibition, which was organized by teachers and several parents. These were paintings (even paintings by numbers), knitted items, wooden objects with decorations using the decoupage technique, dot painting, stained glass paintings, items made from newspaper tubes and straws, beaded brooches, leather accessories, etc. Everything was done by the hands of people whom the children know in completely different roles. There were also photographs of cakes with figures (they just couldn’t be brought to the exhibition). There are talented people in our country, what more can I say!
Drawings on asphalt with augmented reality
If your area has a warm fall and a dry spring, play some holiday music and have plenty of crayons ready. I really like photographs in which objects and natural phenomena are drawn with chalk. Maybe you can prepare a mock-up of the plot for each class, which needs to be repeated on the asphalt and photographed. Do not make drawings that are too large, as it will not be possible to take a photo from a human height; you will have to shoot from the windows of the school or neighboring houses.
Ribbons of wishes and congratulations on the anniversary
Environmentalists are actively protesting against launching balloons into the sky, and I am sorry that such a symbolic and beautiful tradition is leaving.
We tied ribbons to the balloons, on which we wrote our wishes and at the same time launched them into the sky. If the school is only 30 years old, that's 30 balls... It looked beautiful on the video. In principle, you can simply choose a tree in the school yard and tie ribbons with wishes there. It also turns out beautifully. The wind blows colored ribbons, your wishes come true.
Giant coloring by numbers painting
The point is this.
On a large banner poster (it can be mounted separately on a wooden structure or attached to a wall), make markings with closed contours. The plot needs to be observed or invented so that it is clear that the future film is dedicated specifically to the anniversary of the school. If you can’t find large size paper, glue together 6 sheets of white A1 or even A0 cardboard. Inside each outline are numbers from 1 to 11. Assign each number a different color. For example: first class - green (number 1). The second class is red (number 2). Third class - yellow (number 3), etc. All 11 classes must alternately paint the selected areas with their colors, creating a solid image created with the participation of each class. DIY photo zone for the school's anniversary.
Video congratulations from fairy-tale and literary characters
This is done and installed in advance.
Let Pinocchio and Malvina, Basilio the cat and Alice the fox, Onegin and Tatyana, Grandfather Mazai and all the hares congratulate the school. What kind of costumes will you find? You can write humorous texts to congratulate the school and the team; I think there are talents in every class. All videos can be played on the screen on the holiday, and the most successful ones can be shown on the big screen at the final concert. Here again is a photo of my son, he was very convincing in the image of Basilio the cat.
Dance flash mob
This is a classic of the genre among mass congratulations, but preparing a flash mob well is quite difficult.
To begin with, we make a recording of learning the movements and running through the entire flash mob at pace, and post it on YouTube. This should be done by a rhythm teacher, if there is one, or just a fiery dancing teacher or high school student. It is from the video that everyone will prepare for general rehearsals. Then you need to do a little casting to put the kids who dance well in the forefront. Well, rehearse as much as you can.
Don't forget to remind them to wear the same clothes. For example, jeans and white T-shirts. The flash mob can be started at the end of the concert (children start on stage, then students, teachers and parents join in the hall). If you also persuade the director to dance, that’s great!
A funny record in honor of the school
It must be something big.
Maybe a snake of all the students and teachers (we hold on to the waist, slowly follow each other to the music). Or a human chain (everyone holds hands) and stands around the school. How many circles will you end up with? You can also build giant anniversary figures from standing or sitting students (we take the photo from the height of the 2nd or 3rd floor of the school, naturally).
Or maybe start the longest radio program on school radio. Or a multi-hour poetry marathon.
The magic of numbers
Collect the names of songs, fairy tales, literary works, films and even chocolates that contain at least some number.
Then replace this number with the anniversary number for your school. Not “The Three Little Pigs”, and not “The Three Fat Men”, but “50 Little Pigs” if your school has 50 or “25 Fat Men” if you are celebrating a quarter of a century. Not “Two Captains,” but 40. Not 17 Moments of Spring, but 80. Not “33 Cows,” but 100. The principle is clear, I think. I suggest depicting your options in the form of A3 posters. This is such an advertisement of old works in a new anniversary reading.

Song of the year (of the year the school opened)
I have a script for an anniversary (human anniversary), which is based on hits from different years.
I won’t retell the essence, read it if the idea catches your attention. Find the program “Song of the Year,” which was filmed in the year the school was founded (the program has existed since 1971). Sometimes it turns out to be a very cool selection, since many songs from past years are still popular. In principle, you don’t have to change the words. Learn these songs with your children and make a retro concert of timeless hits. Killer!
If you don’t have time to learn, make a selection of these songs in the original performance for the soundtrack of a street event (subbotnik, sports festival).
At the final concert, you can insert one song of the same age as your school, performed by teachers, students and parents. A symbolic connection between generations!
Famous alumni and their favorite books
I think the teaching staff of any school will be able to remember graduates who became famous people in your city or even in the country.
These could be executives, artists, businessmen, teachers at your own school, etc. There may be options here. For example, ask them to find and sign their favorite book for the school library (photograph the inscription with wishes and gratitude to the school for publication on social networks). You can record a video greeting at your workplace.
It would be nice to symbolically plant trees with these people on the school site. Or just a potted plant to decorate the school.
30 Alexandrov, 28 Anastasy
Find out which name is most common at school. Collect all the Alexanders from grades 1 to 11 in a group photo. Or all Sofia, Anastasy and Artyomov. Or what name is considered the most popular in your region? Don’t forget to include teachers in this “choir”. In short, it’s quite possible to come up with something fun to post on social networks or to decorate the walls of a school.
Art object “Wall of Friendship”
To build such an art object, each class needs to cover a cardboard box with bright paper.
You can paint it, write all the names of the students on it, or even stick photographs on it. Do everything so that the box is interesting to look at from all sides (well, or from 2 sides, the top, bottom, right and left sides will not be visible during the construction of the wall). Use these boxes to build a sustainable photo wall. Let all this beauty stand in the foyer for several weeks. You can buy the same ones at Leroy or another store.
Cardboard houses with children's drawings
These houses are ready-made. In online stores you can buy large folding structures that, when finished, are more than a meter high. I like this idea because it creates a whole town of colorful houses, decorated in different ways. Make your own Yubileiny street! The walls of the house can not only be painted, but also covered with colored paper, stickers, bright cardboard plates, bottle caps, natural materials, scraps, notebook leaves with fives, etc.
Walk of Fame
Hollywood stars receive a personalized star mounted in marble as recognition.
Well, why not come up with your own walk of fame for the stars of your school. Not on the floor, but on the walls. Maybe glue the photos to some shaped stars made of cardboard, foam or plastic. Or attach cards with the names of your school heroes to the gold star balloons. Star blanks made of cardboard and polystyrene are available in online stores, and they can be made to order in any city.
School quest
I've been promising to write a quest script for school for years, but still nothing.
I'll improve, honestly. For now, look at what tasks are suitable for the anniversary quest from my scenarios for home holidays. All rooms can and should be used for the game: the dining room, offices, locker room, assembly and sports halls, and the library. For now, use the simplest method. Create for each team of participants (teams preferably no more than 5 people from each class) their own route map. This is an individual plan for visiting different locations in a certain sequence at different times. While members of one team are racking their brains in the dining room, others are going through quest tests in the library. After 10 minutes, at a signal from the organizer, the teams go to a new test.
In each location, a character (we dress up as a high school student) or a subject teacher is waiting for the team. He prepares one interesting task (a puzzle, a non-standard problem, a sequence of numbers or pictures, a puzzle, etc.), and assigns from 1 to 3 points for completing the task. If you did it yourself - 3 points. With a hint - 2 points. With two hints or a direct hint - 1 point. Didn't have time to pass the test - zero points. In the same route map you put points, at the end of the quest it will be clear whose team won.
If there is a need for the script, for completing the task you give a chocolate medal, a prop key, stationery, candy, and paper figures. Something that can then be counted and summed up.
Here are my selections of free quests, get inspired!
