13 ideas for a homemade horror party: they can be used for Halloween and not only

All Saints' Day or Halloween is a holiday that came to us from the West not so long ago. And if it is alien to the older generation, then young people, teenagers and children fell in love with this cheerful holiday of evil spirits. After all, if you are afraid of something or someone, then the easiest way to overcome your fear is to laugh at it. That's why Halloween is becoming more and more popular every year.

For the holiday, people dress up in costumes of witches and ghosts, prepare sweets decorated in the style of All Saints' Day, and Halloween competitions are the most interesting part of the celebration for children. Let's look at them in more detail. A selection of fun themed entertainment especially for you. Here you will find options for different age categories of participants. Most of them do not require any special props, which means they can be performed at home, at a school function or at a party without much preparation.

Mummy

You will need several rolls of toilet paper for this. This is a well-known game for a long time, but nevertheless it does not lose its popularity. After all, it’s easy to do, and the result is quite fun. And the mummy is an image from the other world, which fits perfectly with the theme of the holiday.

How to hold a competition? Participants are divided into several teams. Each team has two people. One of the participants stands, and the second wraps him in toilet paper, starting from his feet and ending with his head. The mouth and eyes should remain open. This is a game of speed, but do not forget that the team whose paper is torn leaves the game.

Games and competitions for Halloween

A Halloween party can feature many popular games tailored to the theme of the holiday. For example, everyone knows the game of passing an object in a circle accompanied by music. Whoever has the object in his hands at the moment when the music stops must, for example, crow and leave the game. And then the transfer of the item continues until one participant remains. On Halloween, you can have similar fun by passing a pumpkin or a plastic model of a skull around in a circle. The one who has the transferred object in his hands at the moment the music is turned off needs to scream loudly, as if from fear, and leave the circle.

The well-known entertainment “Musical Chair” (everyone walks around the chairs, and when the music stops, they rush to sit down) can also be adapted. You can, for example, walk around a table on which there are heads of garlic - one less than the number of participants. When the music stops, everyone takes a head of garlic in their hands. Those who didn't have enough were bitten by a vampire. This means that he has no place among people, and he drops out. The music needs to be chosen appropriately – suspenseful, alarming. The soundtrack from “The Pink Panther” would also work.

You can organize competitions to quickly drink tomato juice, which at Halloween is called nothing more than blood.

And among adults, you can hold a pairs competition to drink Bloody Mary: cocktails (vodka with tomato juice) are made in tall glasses, each pair is given a glass and two straws. Whichever pair empties the glass through the straws the fastest wins the prize.

Relay races are traditional at holidays. On Halloween, you can hold a relay race for high-speed transfer of “eyes” in a spoon. The eyes are painted tennis balls. The eye ball is placed in a spoon and carried by team members.

We offer several more games and competitions for Halloween.

Competition "Terrible Spell"

To warm up, all party participants will have to come up with the most terrible, dark, creepy spell and pronounce it in the most terrible, dark, creepy voice. At the same time, your spell may not contain wise words or deep thoughts. It’s even better if it’s just a set of inarticulate sounds, but said in a heartbreaking and convincing way - the main thing is to make everyone around you feel creepy (or funny). The winner is the most terrible spellcaster.

game "Witch's eyes"

For this game you will need the following props:

  • a large cardboard box without one side wall so that viewers can clearly see what is happening inside;
  • cut a hole on top so that a hand can pass through, but the owner of the hand himself cannot look into the box;
  • several plates with grapes, orange slices, soft jelly sweets without wrappers, boiled pasta, mashed potatoes, semolina porridge, etc.

The participant is invited to put his hand in the box and by touch determine the menu for today's festive evening: “Boiled Witch Eyes”, “Italian Mealworms”, “Brains of a Young Virgin”, etc. At this time, the presenter puts another plate with the announced “delicacies” in the box. Spectators can only have fun watching the hand, and most importantly, the expression on the participant’s face. Don’t forget to then offer the participant a wet napkin to wipe away “traces of the crime.”

competition "Feed the Leshy"

One pair from each team participates. The Leshys from each team sit on chairs, and the Kikimoras are blindfolded and given treats for the Leshys, for example, boiled potatoes, a slice of bread, a cake or a pickled cucumber. The kikimor is turned around an axis several times to confuse it. Leshy do not speak, but only make hissing sounds “sh-sh-sh” or “ch-ch-ch”, by which Kikimors must find them. Kikimor's task is to find her Leshy and feed him before her rival. It turns out very funny if Kikimors suddenly feed someone else's Leshy.

Two people participate. They sit at the table opposite each other, and an inflated balloon is placed on the table. But as soon as the participants begin to blow, the ball is removed, and a full plate of flour is placed in its place. From the outside it looks fun.

While the task is being explained to the guy with his eyes closed, the girl is quickly exchanged for the guy. At the command of the leader, the participant in the game begins to absorb pieces of food, unaware of the replacement.

game "Yellow Bows"

Three or more people participate. To begin with, a girl is invited to the center. Two (three) male players are blindfolded. Then the girls carry out the same manipulations with the man. And so on until everyone has tried these roles.

competition "Mummy"

What would Halloween be without the traditional and beloved Mummy! But there can be several options for performing the competition: the already familiar economical one - using a roll of toilet paper, or more expensive, but much more interesting - wrapping with bandages. The competition can be complicated by asking two (or more) teams to build, for example, a Snowman Mummy or a Polar Bear Mummy. What do you think of the Autumn Mummy - decorated with colorful leaves? And the Stationery (Office) Mummy - with attached pencils and pens? By hiding apples, nuts or other protruding objects under layers of bandages, you will get a terrible monster with tumors and warts. The most original copy wins, of course.

The Mystery of Destiny

The presenter gives the participants their new characteristics: cards with the inscription (for example, vampire, demon, sorcerer, werewolf) are fixed on the backs of the players. At the same time, everyone can read the names of the others, but cannot find out who they are. During the allotted time, players can ask questions about their “rank” to others, and answer others’ questions only “yes” or “no.” At the end, the players tell the host what they think is written on the card. Those who guessed correctly or were closest to the solution win.

Zombies and mummies

Draw a large circle with chalk, place 2 chairs far apart from each other inside. The presenters divide the players into teams of “zombies” and “mummies”, blindfold them and mix them among themselves. Zombies say "Uh-uh" and mummies say "Uh-uh." You need to gather your team in a “huddle” around a chair without leaving the circle. The one who crossed the border is eliminated from the game and helps the presenters. The team with the most participants in the allotted time wins.

Pass to the Sabbath

The host asks the players a question: “Who wants to go to the Sabbath?” Each participant must say who he is (any word: witch, skeleton, closet, cucumber) until the host lets him through. You can skip a person based on any pre-selected criterion (for example, the first letters of the skip words are vowels). The players' task is to find out what criterion the presenter uses.

Bridge over the abyss

The players are divided into pairs. Each is given three sheets of A4 format. The task of the contestants is to cross them, moving from one to another, across the “abyss”. Since walking over the abyss is dangerous, team members must protect each other - hold hands during the transition, without letting go. The team that completes the task the fastest wins.

Holiday makeup

Participants are divided into several teams of 3-5 people. Each team receives a set of props for applying “makeup” and a task: a list of monsters to paint as. The remaining werewolf players must take a sip of the potion and determine who they turned into and why. The winner is the one who guessed what the alchemist intended, or the one who came up with the best explanation.

Terrible witchcraft

Participants must come up with and cast a “real spell,” which should not contain meaningful words or phrases. It is important that the invented set of sounds sound as dark as possible, and most importantly, explain to others what magical effect is achieved with the help of what is spoken. It will be interesting if the result of the spell is something funny, for example, “This curse causes frogs to grow on a person’s nose.”

Witch-hunt

The "witch hunter" is blindfolded and spun around. The remaining participants (“witches” and “citizens”) move around chaotically. The highlight is that the witches have bells in their hands, and it is these that the Hunter must catch in a minute or two, after which the next Hunter is chosen (by lot). The one who makes the fewest mistakes wins.

The art of transformation

Participants are divided into teams, each choosing a volunteer and a mystical character. After this, the teams are asked to dress up the chosen one from the opposing team within the allotted time. The game must take place in the presence of adults.

The driver, having entered the “crypt” with the “victim,” begins to tell in a sepulchral voice: “This is the crypt of a mummy. This is a mummy's coffin (pointing to the sofa). This is the leg of the mummy (at this moment the driver takes the palm of the “victim” and applies it to the leg of the person lying under the sheet). This is the mummy's hand (the victim's palm is applied to the hand). This is the neck of the mummy (the palm is placed on the neck). And this is the eye of the mummy (the presenter, holding the victim by the finger, pokes it into the place on the sheet covering the trough with yogurt). For this prank to be successful, several rehearsals are necessary. Try not to prank overly impressionable people.

And after several participants who were in the room uttered heartbreaking “screams of horror,” the rest of those present were afraid to go there.

"Old Dead Joe's Cave" Halloween Prank Game

This is delightfully "scary" fun for older children. To organize such a game, you will have to work hard in advance to equip a special darkened room, placing in it on stands or just chairs various “body parts” of “Old Dead Joe”: “eyes”, “tongue”, and so on. They should be placed in vessels or containers of suitable volume, mostly filled with warm water. Each of the children who is brave enough for this is blindfolded and allowed to enter the “cave” - no more than one child at a time. You, as a good owner, should lead the child from one scary object to another, each time allowing him to put his hands into the vessel and try to determine by touch what it contains. All other children at this time should sit quietly and, with bated breath, listen to the squeals and screams of the daredevil, who is being led through the “cave.”

Any room with tightly closed curtains or even a corridor (if the holiday takes place after sunset) can serve as a cave - just don’t turn on the lights, and participants are guaranteed a scary experience :)

Here are the body parts of “Old Dead Joe” that you need to make and place in the “cave” in advance:

  • “Old Dead Joe's Bones” - find tree branches of a suitable size on the street and free them from branches and leaves;;
  • "Old Dead Joe's Guts" - a large bowl filled with moist, slimy noodles;
  • Old Dead Joe's Heart is a very large peeled tomato;;
  • "Old Dead Joe's Eyes" - a small container filled with water in which two large grapes float;
  • "Old Dead Joe's Teeth" - a metal pot or kettle filled with small stones or hard candy;
  • "Old Dead Joe's Hair" is a human hair wig stretched over a ball;
  • "Old Dead Joe's Ears" - two halves of an artichoke (with the sharp spines trimmed);
  • "Old Dead Joe's Nose" - a raw potato cut into the shape of a nose;
  • Old Dead Joe's Fingers - cold sausages;
  • finally, "Old Dead Joe's Blood" is a pot or jug filled with warm tomato juice.

You will need to have a towel on hand to dry your child's hands after they have gotten into the blood.

When you leave the “cave” with a child, you can do a great job of intimidating children who have not yet visited the cave by loudly declaring: “Run, go and wash the blood off your hands: otherwise the whole parquet will be covered in blood!” The squeals and delight of the festival participants are guaranteed.

You will also need a flashlight to help you navigate your way through a dark room. Of course, the child will be blindfolded, but you will need a little light to guide him by the hand from vessel to vessel. Be sure to videotape the entire celebration (including your visit to “Old Dead Joe’s Cave”); it can be successfully demonstrated to guests closer to the end of the holiday.

Who's worse?

Props:

  • inflatable balloons (as many as there are participants);
  • felt-tip pens or markers.

The task of the competition participants is to make a scary face out of the ball. A certain period of time is given during which the players paint the balls. At the end of the allotted time, guests vote for each of the “works”. Whose face gets the most votes is the winner.

Apple bobbin

props:

  • basins of water or ropes;
  • medium-sized apples (donuts, bagels).

The essence of the entertainment is to catch the maximum number of apples from a bowl using your mouth. Your hands remain behind your back.

If this version of the competition does not seem very suitable to you, you can try to change the conditions a little - hang the apples on ropes and invite the participants to eat them at speed. Again, hands-free. Well, a completely modified option is to replace the apples on the strings with bagels or donuts. It won't be quite an apple bobbin, but that won't make it any less fun.

Choosing the main witch

Here is a whole group of competitions that will be of interest mainly to girls . The main purpose of holding them is to choose the most important and terrible witch. This stage of the holiday is built on the principle of a beauty contest. At the first stage, a fairly large number of applicants take part. After each competition, from one to three little witches who scored the fewest points are eliminated. There will be four stages in total, so you need to calculate the number of losers in each so that in the end there is only one participant left. However, you can initially assign points to the applicants so that each girl can participate in all competitions. Then the winner will be the witch who scores the most points.

Stage No. 1

First of all, witches must present themselves to the public as original as possible . You can use anything for this - read your own poem without preparation, sing a song, dance an unusual dance. The main condition of the presentation is that everything that the participants demonstrate must be unique to them. The jury evaluates each applicant, assigning her a certain number of points on a ten-point scale.

Stage No. 2

Every self-respecting witch should be able to masterly handle a broom . Therefore, at this stage we will need several brooms (mops, gymnastic sticks, etc.), as well as two long ropes and ordinary plastic skittles, which are found in the gym of any school. From all this equipment it is necessary to build a “track”, which the participants will walk on brooms. The pins can be placed so that you need to go around them in a “snake”. Pull one of the ropes at a distance of 30-40 cm from the floor so that you can jump over. The second is about a meter or a little less from the floor. You need to crawl under it.

Be sure to record the time it takes each participant to complete the course. Penalty points are deducted for all violations - knocked down pin, touched rope, etc.

Stage No. 3

All real witches master the art of seduction. Therefore, in the third stage, the participants will have to show their kissing skills! You shouldn’t take this literally and say that this is a competition for adults. It is perfect for teenagers 14-16 years old, and even 12 and younger. No, they will have to kiss as many boys as possible on the cheek within a certain time (from one to three minutes) . Each applicant is given a bright lipstick. These lipsticks must be of different colors. At the signal, the participants run to the boys and kiss them on the cheek. There is one limitation - only two witches can kiss one boy . That is, there can only be one mark on each of his cheeks. At the end of the time, a beep sounds and the judges count the number of marks of each color.

Stage No. 4

The last competition is a test of knowledge and level of intelligence . After all, witches must be very smart and quick-witted. All participants are given plates of different colors. Their task is to answer questions quickly and correctly. After the question has been asked, the participant who knows the answer raises the sign. The one who reacted the fastest answers first. And answer her. One point is awarded for a correct answer, and a point is deducted for an incorrect answer. After an incorrect answer, other participants can also try to answer. Here are examples of questions that may be asked.

  • What is the most annoying and hated thing in the morning? (Alarm)
  • What is the most popular male name in jokes about school? (Vovochka)
  • A school subject that tends to appear if the lessons are learned, and disappear (forgotten at home) if you get a bad grade? (Diary)
  • What is the correct name for the school cafeteria? (Dining room)
  • For what document should all children go to school? (Certificate)
  • If students use pens and pencils most often, what does the teacher use most often? (Chalk)
  • Where does the school “interrogation” take place? (At the blackboard)
  • What signal indicates the end and beginning of the lesson? (Bell)
  • What is the name of something to which not only students and teachers, but even the director obey? (Schedule of lessons)

These are just sample questions. There may be fewer or more of them, others may sound. However, they all must be connected to the school in one way or another.

Devil's tail

Props:

  • thread or rope;
  • pencil;
  • bottle.

We take all the props in multiples of the number of participants. The rope is attached to the participant's belt so that it hangs from the back to knee level. A pencil is tied to the end of the rope. The contestant's task is to lower the pencil into the bottle without helping himself with his hands. The one who can do it faster than the rest wins. What is interesting here is not so much the result as the process of getting a pencil into a bottle. For the competition, choose a fun musical accompaniment.

Letter from a maniac

You will need:

  • newspapers or magazines;
  • paper;
  • glue;
  • scissors.

This option is more suitable for schoolchildren who can already read well and wield scissors without the help of adults. You can carry it out at home, because it does not require a lot of free space.

Children are divided into two or more teams. Their task is to cut out letters and words from newspapers and magazines and compose a terrible letter from them. Whose letter, based on the voting results, turns out to be scarier, longer and more interesting is declared the winner.

Competitions for children 7 – 8 years old

Children at this age already know how to read and write, so along with fun games, you can include intellectual tasks.

Hit the monster

This competition requires little preparation.

You need to take a wooden stand or a large foam sheet. We attach inflated orange or yellow balloons to it. We fill one ball with candies and draw a monster’s face on it.

The task is to hit the monster with a dart. Whoever gets there takes all the candy for himself.

Another version of this game.

We put different types of candies into all the balls. We prepare cards with questions in advance. The players' task is to answer the question or riddle correctly. The one who answered correctly is given one dart, he can throw it at the balls, if he hits, then the candy is his.

Since the game involves sharp objects, it should be played under the supervision of parents. Darts cannot be given out in advance.

Show the monsters

Each participant is asked to pull out a card with the name of a monster, which must be shown to the other players. They, in turn, must guess who the participant is showing. For example, you need to show a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein, a mummy or a dragon.

For older children, you can make the task more difficult. For example, a boy needs to be shown a headless horseman, and a girl needs to be shown the ghost of an abandoned bride.

Whoever shows the most striking image wins.

Guess the monster

A similar game, but with minor changes. A card with the name of the monster is attached to each player's back, so that he cannot read it, but everyone else can.

The leader calls all the players in turn. He must turn his back to the others so that they can read what kind of monster is written. Then the player turns to face the audience and asks leading questions to find out what kind of monster he is. The rest of the players only say yes or no.

The winners are those who can guess what monster is written on their back.

Elusive ghost

A fun competition that both children and adults can play.

All guests are divided into two teams. They sit at the table so that each member of one team is opposite the opponent. An inflatable balloon with a scary face drawn is placed between each pair. If there are no balls or not enough, then you can use table tennis balls.

All players are blindfolded. At the leader’s command, everyone begins to blow on the ball so that it flies to the opponent’s side.

To add variety to this competition, you can quietly remove the ball. Then it will be very fun, since the players will blow on each other.

For older children, you can make a trap. When everyone is blindfolded, slowly replace the ball with a saucer of flour. It will be a lot of fun.

The most terrible sorcerer

In this competition, the children need to show their artistic abilities.

Each participant must come up with his own spell and pronounce it loudly. However, this must be done in a scary voice and gestures.

After the player casts his spell, he must explain to everyone what action it performs.

For variety, you can agree in advance that all actions should be funny. For example, this spell causes worms to grow on your head instead of hair.

Vampires are attacking!

You will have to prepare for this competition in advance and buy false fangs according to the number of all participants. It is better to play outside or in a spacious room, as you will have to run and jump a lot.

The host chooses vampires from among the guests. There should be much fewer of them than ordinary people. For example, two vampires are enough for ten guests.

The game begins with the leader’s command: “night!” Night is the time when vampires go out hunting and try to catch as many ordinary people as possible. The task of vampires is to convert the greatest number of people, the task of people is to escape from them.

Then the leader commands: “day!” Vampires cannot stand daylight, so they must quickly hide, while ordinary people walk quietly.

Players who are caught by vampires become vampires themselves and wear false fangs. Now there are more vampires, which means there are more chances to catch more people.

Crossing the abyss

Players are divided into several teams. Before each team, a crossing is established - several format sheets are laid on the floor to form a long snake.

The task is for the whole team to cross the crossing. However, to make the task more difficult, the guys must grab each other by the waist.

If the teams got across without any problems, then the pieces of paper are folded in half. The path becomes narrow and inconvenient.

Catch the witch

Required:

  • several bells;
  • scarves or scarves for blindfolding.

Two witch hunters are selected from among the competition participants and are blindfolded. Those who get the role of the witch take bells in their hands and mingle with other participants. The hunters' task is to catch the maximum number of witches in a certain period of time. The most dexterous hunter is awarded a prize. The competition is quite active, so it is better to hold it in a spacious room so that the kids have room to run around. While the hunters are catching the witches, turn on a cheerful, rhythmic melody.

Pumpkin Explosion

Required details

  • a large board, a piece of cardboard or just a free wall;
  • green paper;
  • orange balloons;
  • cards with questions;
  • small candies;
  • threads

We throw candy into the balloons, then inflate them and tie them. We attach the balls in such a way that on the wall or board we get a pumpkin made of balls. Cut out a tail for a pumpkin from green paper.

Participants take turns taking cards with questions and answering them. These could be questions from the school curriculum, on a Halloween theme, or based on a book or movie. The one who answered correctly gets the right to burst any balloon and take away the candy. To make it more interesting, you can put candies not in all the balls or replace some of the candies with other small souvenirs. And for entertainment, add confetti or sparkles to each balloon, which will effectively fly away when the balloon bursts.

This children's Halloween contest is not as easy to implement as the previous ones, but the children's delight in popping the balloons is worth a little effort.

Bat

Props: several soft toys in the shape of bats. They can be replaced with cardboard figures.

One of the children hides bats in the room, and the other participant must find all the figures using the clues. Hints are formulated in only two words - either warm or cold, or close or far.

Figures for the competition can be not only in the shape of bats, it can be any object associated with Halloween - a pumpkin, a witch, a cross, a monster. Or you can use several holiday characters at once.

Cardboard figures are easier to hide - they are lightweight and can be attached to furniture, curtains, or a chandelier. For fastening, use pins or double-sided tape.

Scary monster

Props:

  • paper;
  • pencils or markers.

The game can be played with both toddlers and older children.

The essence of the game: each participant is given a sheet of paper and he draws a monster's head on it. Next, the sheet is folded so that what is drawn is not visible, and the participants exchange drawings. The next stage is to draw the torso and arms, and again hide what was drawn. We exchange leaves and finish drawing the monster’s legs. Then the drawings are unfolded and shown to the public. Wild fun guaranteed! Another advantage of this entertainment is that there are no winners and losers - the work on the monsters is carried out jointly. But, as an option, you can vote for the scariest monster.

How to reward the winners and participants?

For competitions, it is necessary to prepare not only props, but also prizes. Here are a few small and inexpensive gifts for the winners:

  • a small soft toy in the shape of a holiday hero: a ghost, a bat;
  • sweets. These can be regular candies, or you can bake or order cupcakes decorated with an image of a spider web, pumpkin, monster or ghost;
  • carnival masks with scary faces. Such props will certainly come in handy at the party;
  • medals for “Best Monster”, “Best Ghost”, “Coolest Witch”, etc.;
  • diplomas. The meaning is the same as the point above;
  • small souvenirs with the symbols of All Saints' Day.

These are just a few ideas, the list goes on. The main thing is that none of the participants is left without a prize, and that the holiday is fun and unusual!

Halloween Guest List and Invitations

A children's party will be better if you involve a child in the organization. Ask him and get advice - this way you can organize a holiday that will really be interesting to children.

Before you write a Halloween invitation for teens or kids, find out who your child's friends are and who they would like to invite to the party. Match the list of guests to the party with the amount of space. Everyone should fit at the table, and the hall should have enough space so that guests do not touch anything during games.

It’s better to create the Halloween atmosphere in advance. Invitations do the job perfectly. Design them in a Halloween theme and send them to your invitees. It could even be a purchased postcard, the main thing is that it accurately conveys the atmosphere of the upcoming party.

Holiday invitation ideas

  • Owl or bat.
  • Pumpkin.
  • Skeleton figurine.
  • Image of a monster or witch.

Halloween invitations can be drawn or printed. It is better to do this together with the child, so that he feels that he is organizing the holiday himself. Be sure to mention in the text that a costume party is planned. Parents and children should have time to prepare their Halloween costume. Along with the invitation to the party, you can send themed souvenirs or bags of gummy worms.
