Girls, where does your love for dresses come from?
OLYA

: We studied together at a creative university – Stroganovka, at the Faculty of Graphic Design and went to hang out in the then fashionable clubs – “Opera”, “Diaghilev”, Famous and others. The 2000s were a time when everything was done on a grand scale, including parties, especially themed ones like Halloween, so we started dressing up. We have always done and do everything by hand, we sew, glue rhinestones and create crazy designs.

What was the first (conscious) costume after which you realized that dressing up as octopuses, aliens and flamingos was your calling?

ANYA

: There is a certain interesting pattern for us: the key moments in our work are always connected in one way or another with images of aliens. In 2009, we had our first paired look, when we realized that we could do something cool for a space party at the Roof of the World. Everything was assembled and sewn together, as before, with our own hands.

For Olya's costume we used a dog collar - we gave it the shape we needed and decorated it with foil, the boots were inlaid with mirror mosaics, and for my costume we dug up a piece of silver plastic somewhere and made a corset belt out of it, sewed on an elastic jumpsuit with a tail and a mask, dyed artificial hair pink. I remember how people paid attention to us and enthusiastically praised the images! Emotions are so energizing and motivating!

Well, the turning point came in the summer of 2015, the Midsummer Night's Dream party, where we were bald retrofuturistic elves. Our costumes were noted by many guests, it was especially cool to receive praise from the event organizers Margot and Salavat, as well as Olga Sviblova. This exit was the starting point of our decision to found Moonmight.

Are there many parties where you have a chance to dress up? Where is it appropriate to do this?

ANYA

: This is, in fact, a question of your inner attitude, state of mind. You don’t really need a reason to dress up, we’re sure of that. This can be any event, with a dress code from smart casual to black tie, to which you can wear a cool accessory - an unusual headdress or glasses, for example.

Do you think the culture of Halloween and costume balls will take root in Moscow? Have there been more such events recently?

ANYA

: Today, in 2021, we can say yes! There is a certain trend for costumed events, which has been going on for several years now. After a long period of stagnation in 2013–2016, it is felt that people are tired of the same type of parties without decorations and expressive images. Everyone wants a holiday. This can be seen in the numerous costumed raves, festivals, and closed parties “for our own people.”

How do you come up with costumes? Can I come and say: dress me up in something I don’t know what? Do you start from a person’s image, from some trends, from the weather outside the window?

ANYA

: Every time we develop a new accessory or costume, we are inspired by a certain hero, mood, artist, culture of different countries – anything or anyone can become a muse! We pay attention to the details of our prototype, its mood, emphasize its features, character, and try to combine several prototypes in a costume at the same time. And of course, there’s nowhere without trends. We balance on the line between art and fashion. Our work is one big experiment!

By the way, about trends – are there any?

OLYA

: There are definitely trends, I can say for sure as a stylist. If we look at carnival costumes, for example from the 1940s or 1960s, we can definitely see the influence of the era in the style, colors and materials. Now everyone is delighted with rhinestones, shiny surfaces, glitters and chains. The same chains have become one of the fashion trends FW19/20. And again, the influence of the 2000s is very noticeable: crop tops, mesh, platform shoes. Costumes are an exaggerated reflection of clothing trends plus something completely unusual and eye-catching.

And what is the most popular look this year?

OLYA

: For Halloween, of course, it will be the Joker, but we don’t like quoting the image like that. Cosplaying movies, repeating costumes one after the other – we find it boring. It’s better to come up with something of your own and original.

Tell me, do your “real life” professions help you? Olya, are you a stylist, Anya, are you a designer? Or do you leave all your professional knowledge at the door when you get into your studio?

OLYA

: Yes, it definitely helps me! After all, it’s cool when a suit is also fashionable and stylish. This, I think, is where we differ from many “freak” brands; we adapt to trends and combine our bright style with what we see on shows and in street style chronicles.

ANYA

: Art education, work in the field of styling and graphic design are our base. We collect our experience into a single whole: professional skills, artistic taste and observation are very helpful in our project.

Girls, tell me, what is the most complex costume you have made? Better yet, show me!

ANYA

: Most of our costumes require careful preparation and hard work. One of the most complex images was a costume based on the work of Hieronymus Bosch. The velvet snake bodysuit was embroidered with pearls and LEDs, and the psychedelic mask required taking an actual cast of my face, then making a papier-mâché mask and hand-painting it! The devil is in the details: the mask is crowned with a fantasy flower and berry composition. Everyone who saw this image still tells us that they are shocked by how effective it is.

OLYA

: My costume was, of course, not as fancy as Anya’s, but I had to tinker with the giant strawberry on my shoulder. As always, the most difficult thing was to come up with the fastening and form the base. Here our favorite material helped me - thermal insulation, which you can buy at a hardware store, and then all that was left was to cover it all with velvet and decorate it with pearls.

Where do your ingenious costumes end up that you wear to all these parties? Do they settle in the studio? Do you then rent them out?

OLYA

: What we wear to the party remains a secret until the last moment, so that there is a wow effect. And after the event we keep them and anyone can rent them. Although these are not always found, since our images are often too extravagant and not always easy to use. Not everyone wants to put a chandelier weighing a couple of kilograms on their head.

Name your 5 style rules.

1. Know the basics of color: a combination of suitable colors.

2. Use overlapping materials if you create several costumes at once.

3. Focus on catwalk trends.

4. Experiment with shape and silhouette.

5. Yes, it’s corny, but let’s say it anyway: don’t be afraid to be yourself.

What are your plans? Are you going to sell your creativity in online stores? Maybe even at the international level? Collaborations?

OLYA

: We are handmade, and most things are one-of-a-kind, we are thinking of creating several iconic products, like our glasses with rhinestones, for example, selling on our website and maybe even all over the world. The demand for them is quite high.

Collaborations are dying out, now merch is trendy, so they would do it for some extravagant artist.

And do you have a professional dream (specifically in terms of creating costumes)?

OLYA

: Dress Beyoncé!

ANYA

: It’s very interesting to work with theaters and really great artists.

Instagram

Dress like a hipster. Don't forget glasses with thick frames. Bring a few bags of crackers to the party. Run between guests and quickly hand out cookies. Done, you're Instagram.

Hipsters use Instagram. The service allows you to quickly take and post photos. The Instagram character is dressed like a hipster and quickly rushes around the hall with cookies. Complex logic, but someone out there will figure it out after a couple of cocktails.

Current clothing colors

Since this holiday is dedicated to the other world, evil spirits, the dead, and everything unknown, black is naturally the most appropriate color. But, of course, it doesn’t stop there. You can use the symbol of Halloween - a pumpkin, and add orange to the image, or choose clothes with a pumpkin already drawn. Of course, one cannot ignore the bloody red color and white inserts for bones, skeletons and skulls.

Ghost Writer

You've probably seen the cult movie for all copywriters, “The Ghost Writer.” To transform into a ghost writer, you will need a sheet, an inkwell and a feather. You will have to make holes in the sheet for the eyes. For naturalness, it is better to put a few blots on it. So be careful that your wife doesn’t really send you into the world of ghosts.

Making a jack-o'-lantern

Jack-O-Lantern

A mandatory attribute of the holiday is a large orange pumpkin with the image of a scary face with a candle lit inside. It can be purchased ready-made in a specialized store, or it can be made by hand.

When wondering how to make an unusual candlestick at home, you should stock up on a sharp knife, a pumpkin of the desired size and patience. Having carefully cut off the top with the tail, you need to use a spoon to remove all the pulp from the pumpkin, and then, outlining a grinning face with a pencil, cut out holes in the form of eyes and a mouth. It is advisable to deal with this issue in advance so that the homemade lamp has time to dry out.

Having placed the pumpkin on the windowsill or at the entrance to the house, you just need to place a lit candle or flashlight inside, and everything in the area will be illuminated with flickering light, and the lamp itself will create the necessary ambiance in a matter of seconds.

Internet troll

Wear a trollface mask and a hoodie. You can take a model of a stone ax in your hands. During a party, approach your co-workers and troll them. Just don’t overdo it, otherwise you will be banned, or rather, kicked out of the holiday.

If you have your own Halloween costume ideas, share them in the comments. Remember, they must be related to the Internet industry and technology.

Dresses and skirts - the image of a Halloween witch

And for this “scary” Halloween, you can choose the right dress or skirt. Regardless of the dress you have in mind, you will most likely have to spend time on your hair, makeup, and manicure.

You can come up with a huge number of variations of dresses. This could be a floor-length black dress for the look of a Halloween witch, it could be shapeless and fitted, or you could add a leg slit for some charm. The dress can also be short or medium length. Fishnet tights, torn, with skulls, striped, white, perhaps thick tights, leg warmers or light stockings will suit them. It all depends on the style and material of the dress itself.

For the most daring, you can try on a “broken doll” costume, wearing a black and white dress, funny white or striped tights and a wig with doll hair. Or the image of a “killer nurse”, just wear a short white (possibly silk) bloody dress with a red cross, complementing it with red lipstick and a medical cap.

For going to a club, short or medium-length dresses with lighter textures are more suitable. Accessories may also be present in the outfit: masks, hats, chains, metal bracelets, rings, there may be small or large bags (based on the image).

If you have a dress, shoes are better suited with heels, rather black, perhaps with elements of festive decor: metal spikes, inserts, laces, etc.

Vest

The pirate vest is as simple as possible. This is a short black leather vest without fasteners. You can cut it from a piece of faux leather or an old leather jacket. The height of the vest is equal to the length of the child’s back to the waist or slightly less.

The width of the vest is equal to the circumference of the child's chest. From the center of the part, a distance equal to half the width of the back is set symmetrically, and slots are made for the arms. After fitting, the corners of the vest are rounded.

Your boy probably has a sword or revolver in his arsenal. As a last resort, you can make a curved saber from thick cardboard and paint it with silver paint. You can complement the look with a black eye patch or a large toy parrot sewn onto your shoulder.

Halloween Fashion Looks 2021 – Zombie Housewife

Who can be imagined as a zombie housewife? This is a tireless housewife who completely forgets about rest.

Her costume consists of a fluffy dress with blood stains on it. There is no blush or excess makeup on the face, you can only add bruises under the eyes. She is scary because she feeds on people and if you meet her on the street, it is better to avoid her.

One of the most popular costumes for All Hallows' Eve is the image of a zombie. To create this, women and girls will need to decorate their eyes with dark circles, covering the area of skin under the lower eyelid. This will deprive the face of vital energy, making it as close as possible to the appearance of a dead person.

In order to make the bruises as believable and realistic as possible, we advise you to use bold black or dark gray eyeliner. The help of a red, purple, blue or green pencil would also be quite appropriate. Give preference to cosmetics in rich colors; apply pencils, eye shadow and eyeliner in a thick and thick layer. Pay maximum attention to the lower eyelid: the thicker the outline you draw, the more terrible your zombie will look.

Fashionable looks for Halloween 2021 - vampire

As mentioned earlier, the image of a vampire is very popular during Halloween. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is the image of Dracula. And the most striking example of it, perhaps, is Bram Stoker’s film “Dracula”. It was there that Gary Oldman played the most gentle, sexy and attractive vampire. In general, modern vampires began to have great similarities with people, they began to succumb to certain feelings.

There are many vivid images that are found in films, books, and cartoons. Everyone can choose a vampire to their liking.

In earlier productions, the vampires were much more violent. But if male vampires become soft and sensual, then female vampires remain cruel, but sexy. A striking example of this is the film “Hunger”.

All these film adaptations, one way or another, distinguish the images of vampires from the human world. They can be realized with the help of costumes, makeup, and habits. Modern films “Twilight”, “The Vampire Diaries” and others completely integrate vampires into the lives of ordinary people. It is almost impossible to distinguish them from a person and embody their image. Therefore, they are not suitable for such a holiday as Halloween.

Another version of the classic could be a luxurious, feminine, but at the same time terrifying image of a sexy vampire.

To create it you need neither more nor less:

  • lenses with the eyes of the beast;
  • attractive feminine makeup;
  • bright scarlet lipstick;
  • false fangs.
