Cuban Party: Journey to Freedom Island

If you've had more than one themed party under your belt and are looking for something fresh, a Cuban party is a great way to diversify your cultural life!

Cuba is most often associated with rum, cigars and rumba, but it is a very interesting and multifaceted country. Freedom Island is on many people's list of must-see places. And someone long ago got a lucky ticket, and he visited this wonderful corner of the world, whose name is Cuba. Cuban traditions, famous throughout the world, often form the basis of the most interesting parties, and we have the opportunity to breathe in the smells of the island without leaving the borders of our country.

We invite you to Cuba, friends!

Invitation cards can be made in the form of the Cuban flag, or postcards with a portrait of Ernesto Che Guevara. The main thing is not to forget to indicate the exact time and place where the event will take place, as well as some details, for example, the need to comply with rules in appearance.

We welcome those who have arrived for the holiday

A warm welcome can be provided by a pre-trained Cuban grandmother, who will happily greet guests with the words “mi nieto”. And let the blushing guests not immediately recognize that this means “my grandson.” Having laughed enough, you can go to your place at the table. In addition, guests can be greeted by Fidel Castro in disguise or dancers who will immediately involve everyone in the fiery rumbo rhythms.

Creating a Cuban atmosphere

A very common form of entertainment in Cuba is visiting bars. Therefore, you need to create an improvised bar counter, but for real, that is, it must fulfill its function. And it doesn’t matter whether it’s on the street or in the apartment - use your imagination - window sill, high stools, drawers. Restaurants and cafes most often have bar counters; all that remains is to add a few details - bottles of rum, cigars, hats.

To decorate the walls you will need all kinds of posters related to the theme of Cuba - portraits of leaders and revolutionaries, photos of landscapes, cities, flags.

Tablecloths should be khaki or gray, as if dirty. Regular bags are well suited for these purposes. Stock up on skewers with Cuban flags; they will perfectly decorate any dish. By the way, it is best to choose dishes with marine motifs. Bouquets of mint, slices of lime, cigars in boxes - these details should be present on every table.

How to dress for a Cuban party?

Women can choose light sundresses, skirts, and T-shirts. For men, white shirts with short sleeves, shorts, light-colored trousers, and hats are suitable. If you want to use your imagination, you can dress up as a revolutionary, or a rumba dancer, for example. And anyone who doesn’t come up with a costume can always say that he is a simple tourist.

Cuban menu for a good mood

As for dishes, the Cubans' favorite is rice and beans. This is a wonderful side dish that can be served with many appetizers and sauces.

Salsa sauce goes well with potato chips. This is one of the most popular delicacies in Cuba, where Cubans scoop up the sauce with chips like spoons. Undoubtedly, guests will be delighted with the unusual food for the party.

Meat and fish dishes should be grilled. In addition, you can fry shrimp and asparagus on it. Be sure to have a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits. Not a single feast in Cuba would be complete without seafood.

The cocktail called “Mojito” is widely known throughout the world, but few people know that it comes from Cuba. This is rum with soda and lime - very tasty and beautiful at the same time. In principle, there are a huge number of types of rum on the island of freedom, so you can try different varieties and taste cocktails. Don't forget about Cuban fruit liqueurs! And for those who do not drink alcohol, prepare coffee with ice cream and freshly squeezed juices.

Dance and only dance

In Cuba, everyone dances, so it’s forbidden to slack off at a party. After a hearty dinner, it is imperative to arrange musical breaks in which everyone can show off their abilities. You can invite professionals who will teach you how to dance Cuban rumba. After the guests have learned the simple lessons, it is imperative to organize a pair dance competition.

A party in Cuba isn't all about rum and cigars. These are beautiful dances, fiery rhythms, passionate kisses and only joyful emotions. Let every Cuban party, even if it takes place far from the island of freedom, carry a charge of only positive energy, the kind for which the great and enchanting Cuba is famous.

Photoplace

It would be nice to create some kind of thematic corner for bright photographs. You can make a tropical garland using the same paper leaves. Add volume with balloons. Fill the background with ribbons or rain.

I liked the rather original idea of a waterfall. Hint - the rocks can be made from a large wad of paper wrapped in crepe paper, or you can get creative and make a papier-mâché style rock and then paint it on.

Prepare the Voodoo Boo

If you want to feel like a simple Cuban, prepare “voodoo boo” for your bachelorette party. This dish has a rich historical past: it used to be eaten by slaves brought from Africa on plantations, and today by Cuban workers. First, soak the peas and beans in water, then mix them with grated cheddar cheese and bake the mixture in the oven. Just before serving, add pre-fried bacon pieces to the voodoo boo and season with chili pepper.

For lovers of spectacular performances, the dish borrowed by Cubans from Mexicans is fajitas. Its main ingredients are tomatoes, onions and bell peppers, to which you can add beef, pork or seafood. Cut the vegetables into large cubes, and the meat or fish into smaller pieces and marinate everything in lime juice, chili pepper, coriander seeds and olive oil. Then take a clean frying pan, heat it up, pour in a minimum amount of vegetable oil and place the finished mixture on it. After a few seconds, turn off the heat. Flavorful, sizzling fajitas are served right in the pan, so make sure there is a stand on the table.

Drinks and snacks

It’s also better to serve food and drinks in a special way. Cuba is famous for its juicy fruits, let there be enough of them on the festive table, you can put a vase with tropical fruits or beautiful slices. Watermelon will also be useful here.

What they like to drink in Cuba is, of course, a refreshing majito, so this can be served to guests. Men can be served beer, but how, see ideas below.

Suits

Thinking about what to wear for your theme can be overwhelming. After all, Cuba is full of Spaniards, mulattoes, Africans and Latin Americans. A crazy cocktail of trends and styles! An African outfit is quite suitable - a baggy bright dress to the toes and a headscarf tied with a cocoon. Mexican straw hats, Hawaiian full skirts and garlands of beads are also appropriate.

But the easiest option is to use the colors of the flag for the dress code. For example, blue jeans or shorts, a white T-shirt and a white star on a red background (print on a T-shirt, scarf, scarf, beret). Showing your imagination, the result will be recognizable and festively bright!

Another option is to build on the military style, images of Che Guevara and the Cuban military. With a revolutionary twist, 100% on topic. You can prepare T-shirts with a portrait of the Comandante, berets, holsters and weapons, cartridge belts, and large black glasses for your friends.

The last option is the simplest, but that’s why we love it among the organizers. Recognizable Cuban style for men - summer trousers, T-shirt or tank top, suspenders, hat. Instead of a T-shirt, a long-sleeve shirt, plain or Hawaiian, will do. For girls it’s even simpler - a small short dress or a short top and a playful skirt. In such clothes it is convenient to dance the rumba and generally have an active rest. If the lack of hem length bothers you, wear shorts or colorful knee-length leggings, directly under a skirt or instead of a skirt (with a tunic).

Cakes

If the party is planned in honor of a birthday, then you can’t do without a cake. I’ll say right away that making such a cake is quite difficult, so it’s better to order it from a professional pastry chef.

But you can also make chocolate cake decorations in the shape of pineapples and flamingos.

I hope you find these ideas helpful for creating the hottest Cuba Party ever!

Daiquiri

Ingredients:

  • Light rum – 50 ml
  • Lemon – 1 pc.
  • Lime – 1 pc.
  • Granulated sugar – 100 g
  • Ice – 4 cubes

Cooking method

1. Prepare sugar syrup in advance: dilute the sand in boiling water in a ratio of one to one (per 100 g of sugar - 100 ml of water).

2. Squeeze the juice from half a lemon.

3. Mix rum, 20 ml lemon juice, 20 ml sugar syrup - this is a classic option. If you like cocktails sweeter, increase the dose of syrup; if you like cocktails sour, reduce it.

4. Pour ice into a shaker, pour in the prepared mixture and shake for 10 seconds.

5. Pour the cocktail without ice from the shaker into a glass.

6. Serve the drink in a glass garnished with lemon zest and a slice of lime.

Secret

There is another option - Frozen Daiquiri (“Frozen Daiquiri”). To prepare this spectacular thick cocktail, just use a blender instead of a shaker. And don’t forget to add a drop of blackcurrant liqueur to the main ingredients for beauty.

Tropical colors

The whirlpool of bright Cuban colors will make you lose your head! Streets, building facades, old cars and tropical flowers created their own unique color palette. The same goes for interiors: priority is given to lively, bright, rich colors, which are found in furniture, accessories and details.

  • Don't be afraid of deep, strong shades. Give preference to rich pastels, bright turquoise, sunny yellow and coral. An important addition - earth tones!
  • Paint door and window frames blue or green, use turquoise or yellow as an accent color for the wall, and paint the ceiling a fresh mint shade.
  • White, cream, beige and light gray create a feeling of spaciousness and help highlight tropical colors.

How to wear under a jacket

When it comes to wearing a Cuban shirt under a jacket, you shouldn’t take it lightly and wear the first one that comes to hand. The collar of the jacket may not match the pointed collar of the shirt. Also, denim jackets simply contrast with their everyday look. However, a basic cotton jacket strikes a nice balance: the simple but smart look pairs well with a Cuban shirt.

When choosing the color of a jacket, it is recommended to stick to neutral colors, as you should not wear an identically eye-catching jacket on top of a bright shirt, creating a colorful image that people associate with parrots.

How to wear with trousers

The very first combinations with Cuban shirts are associated with trousers. At the time of their first dawn, these combinations were very popular. Remember the characters from films of those years or celebrities, for example, Elvis Presley. Nowadays, this method has still not lost its relevance.

To achieve this tried-and-true look, just find a shirt with neutral colors that don't stand out too much. You can also try wearing shirts that have some extra details. And for the bottom, choose trousers with stripes or pleated ones. Then tuck it into them in a simple but elegant way.
