DIY Halloween

This holiday has an ancient history; the ancient Celts began to celebrate it. According to legend, on the night of October 31 to November 1, the spirits of dead people appear on earth. They need to be appeased so that they do not cause misfortune. So, gradually the legend grew into a cheerful holiday, for which it is customary to dress up in scary costumes depicting spirits and monsters, go from house to house and ask for sweets - to receive “appeasement” for the spirits.

In Russia, house-to-house visits are not accepted, but the love of dressing up and having fun is in the order of things, and therefore the holiday pleases both children and adults. In 2021, Halloween is celebrated on October 31, but in other years the date may fall on the 28th, 29th, or 30th.

Organizing Halloween for kids or teenagers is no more difficult than for adults. The holiday can be celebrated at home, in a cafe, in a kindergarten, at school, in a camp. Organizing a children's party goes through the following stages:

  • Drawing up a guest list and issuing invitations to the holiday.
  • Script writing.
  • Preparing costumes.
  • Hall decoration.
  • Table preparation.

At all stages it is important to show Halloween symbols:

  • An orange pumpkin with a face carved on it.
  • Witch.
  • Jack Pumpkinhead.
  • Black cat, etc.

Stick to black, orange and white colors that are traditional for the holiday.

A children's party will be better if you involve a child in the organization. Ask him and get advice - this way you can organize a holiday that will really be interesting to children.

Before you write a Halloween invitation for teens or kids, find out who your child's friends are and who they would like to invite to the party. Match the list of guests to the party with the amount of space. Everyone should fit at the table, and the hall should have enough space so that guests do not touch anything during games.

It’s better to create the Halloween atmosphere in advance. Invitations do the job perfectly. Design them in a Halloween theme and send them to your invitees. It could even be a purchased postcard, the main thing is that it accurately conveys the atmosphere of the upcoming party.

    Holiday invitation ideas

    • Owl or bat.
    • Pumpkin.
    • Skeleton figurine.
    • Image of a monster or witch.

Halloween invitations can be drawn or printed. It is better to do this together with the child, so that he feels that he is organizing the holiday himself. Be sure to mention in the text that a costume party is planned. Parents and children should have time to prepare their Halloween costume. Along with the invitation to the party, you can send themed souvenirs or bags of gummy worms.

    The worst fear

The guys sit in a circle. Starting from the first one (to be honest, from the one whose name begins with the letter A, if there are none, with the letter B, and so on), the guys name one fear at a time of their neighbor, who sits further after him. For example, he is afraid of the dark or afraid that one day he will be bitten by a shark. The child’s imagination and knowledge about each other will work here. For a correct guess, the participant receives a piece of candy for their piggy bank. The game can last for several rounds. At the end of the game, the results are summed up: whoever managed to collect more candies, that is, guess more of their neighbor’s fears, became the winner.

    Scenario

Be sure to think over a program for the party: children cannot always keep themselves busy, and in order to maintain their interest, you need to organize an entertainment part. It can be:

    • Creative master classes.
    • Active games.
    • Quests.
    • Competitions.
    • Dances and songs.

    Suitable games and competitions

    • Monster Hunters. One of the children becomes a hunter - he is blindfolded, and he must find other players by voice and say their names. If a large company has gathered, there may be several hunters.
    • Make a mummy. Participants are divided into 2 teams, each of them receives paper towels. They choose a player who must be wrapped from head to toe with towels, like a mummy. The team that finishes its mummy the fastest wins.
    • Sabbat. The guests stand in a circle and the music turns on. They pass the broom around. When the music stops, the participant in whose hands the broom ends up is eliminated from the game. The same can be done with a pumpkin or monster figurine.
    • Luna runs away. Donuts are hung from ropes. Participants must eat them without using their hands. The one who does it the fastest wins.
    • The most terrible monster. Have a Halloween costume contest. Nominations can be different: the scariest costume, the funniest, the most beautiful, etc. The main thing is that none of the guests is left without a nomination.

All games and competitions can be combined into one quest. For a win, give a hint or part of a map - at the end of the evening they should lead to a cache of sweets. You can come up with a whole story: a witch stole candy, a spirit asks for help finding a hidden treasure, etc. Prepare a chain of riddles that will gradually lead to the hiding place.

If conditions permit, you can prepare a real horror room: place skeletons and monsters that will appear unexpectedly. Turn off the main lights, leave only electric or real candles and garlands. Play ominous music quietly. However, such a room should not be too scary for children of primary school age.

    Suitable party quizzes

You can conduct a quiz on your knowledge of the history of Halloween, mystical legends, monsters, etc. The topic should not be too complex, focus on the audience: questions for children of high school age and younger ones will differ from each other. Record your answers so that those who score the most points will be given a sweet prize.

Don't forget the appropriate Halloween music. Find mysterious, quiet compositions. For competitions and games, you can choose louder and funnier tracks, but at the same time, guests at the party should hear each other well.

The figure of the monster stands still

The game follows the principle “The sea is troubled once”, only the terrifying figures of evil and merciless Halloween heroes will be shown here. It's simple. One by one, a participant comes out into the circle and says: “The dark forest is worried once, the dark forest is worried two, the dark forest is worried three, a scary figure of a monster (names the monster, for example, Dracula, zombie, witch, troll, and so on) freeze.” And the guys freeze in a monster pose. The participant who guessed the monster chooses the best figure and passes the baton to the participant who showed this very figure. This way, children will remember all the famous monsters and will be able to play their role. And the best actors will receive prizes.

    Images

You simply can't go to an All Saints' Day party without a suit. Let the child choose: he wants to reincarnate as a good spirit or a monster. Most often, Halloween costumes require additional makeup:

    • Face painting or theatrical makeup.
    • Decorative cosmetics.
    • Colored crayons.
    • Available materials.

    Heroes for the party

    • Fairy-tale heroes

This theme is convenient to choose for a private children's party. When getting together at home, parents agree in advance what kind of fairy tales they will be: Russian, European, fairy tales of the same author - and decide who will be who, so that the costumes are not repeated. Girls usually try on the image of princesses, fairies or witches, and boys - princes, wizards or villains.

    • Animals

An animal costume can be chosen for any gender and age. For All Saints' Day, images of a black cat, bat, spider, dinosaur, dragon, snake, etc. are suitable.

The easiest way to make a cat costume. It is enough to put on black clothes, make a tail from a belt, and cut out ears from thick paper. It's easy to make a nose and mustache using a black cosmetic pencil.

    • Superheroes

The costumes of Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, Catwoman, etc. are suitable for boys and girls. The simplest option is the Hulk costume. Dress your child in shorts or ripped pants and a green turtleneck. A sinew or padded jacket will help simulate muscles. Do face painting on your face or buy a mask.

    • Cartoon characters

It is important that kids of a similar age be invited to Halloween in a children's style: kids watch some cartoons, teenagers watch completely different ones. Children under 7 years old will love costumes from “Fixies”, “Smeshariki”, etc. For those older, costumes from “Family of Monsters”, “Monster Academy”, etc. are suitable.

If the party is not limited to a specific theme, then you can choose one of the classic outfits - skeleton, mummy, vampire, zombie, witch, ghost. Any thing that you don’t mind cutting or painting with black paint is suitable as the basis for the costume. Closer to the holiday, stores begin to sell the corresponding attributes: witch hats, masks, wigs, etc.

    How to decorate the hall?

Regardless of the choice of location for the party, the decoration attributes will be the same. This is everything that is usually associated with Halloween, everything that creates an atmosphere of mystery. At the same time, the holiday decoration should not be too dark or oppressive. Use contrasting and accent colors: black, orange and white.

First, look at what you have at home that suits you. Most often these are toys: black cats, birds, monsters. To make decorations, you will need black ribbons, black fabric, etc.

The beginning of the party is a pumpkin with a carved face. An obligatory holiday symbol that you can’t do without. A face can be both evil and good. Find a pumpkin that is the right size, then use a marker to draw a face on it and carefully cut it out with a knife.

    Pumpkin decoration

The more pumpkins, the better. They can serve as decoration for tables, shelves, and walls. If you choose pumpkins of different sizes, you can use them to create a bright themed photo zone.

    • You can hang a poster on the door and hide a secret word in it - whoever reads the text on the poster and finds it will receive a sweet prize.
    • Stick figures of ghosts, black cats, witches, and bats on the windows.
    • Throw a white cloth over white helium balloons and draw a face on it - the ghosts are ready.
    • You can make crafts from red and yellow leaves and decorate cabinets and tables with them.
    • Make a jack-o'-lantern from an orange or grapefruit. Carefully cut off the “lid” on top and remove the pulp. Place a small candle inside and draw a face on the peel. You can make pumpkins in the same way.
    • From old wallpaper or paper, make paper garlands in the form of monsters, ghosts or spiders (it is better to paint the spiders with black paint).
    • Cover an empty glass bottle with white paint and draw a monster's face on it. Place a garland inside - the flashlight is ready, it will be interesting to look at on the table or on the window.

    Party table

If you are planning a home party, you will have to prepare the food and drinks yourself. Halloween is usually associated with the following treats:

    • Apples in caramel.
    • Bread or fortune cookies.
    • Punch.
    • Pumpkin: This can be baked or fried, pumpkin, pie or pumpkin pies, etc.

You can make unusual sweets: finger-shaped cookies, gummy worms, jelly that looks like a brain, etc. However, the main thing is that the children remain well-fed. To do this, you can prepare ordinary dishes: salads and sandwiches, pasta and mashed potatoes as a side dish, lean chicken or turkey - but decorate them. You can add black, orange or red food coloring to your drinks.

Use black, red or orange plates. Place plastic pumpkins, monster figurines, skeletons, etc. between them. You can put its name next to each dish: Witch Mary’s salad, Frankenstein’s brains, the devil’s smile, etc. Take an orange or black tablecloth - in the colors of Halloween. It'll be great if you find a tablecloth with a pumpkin image. You can make three holes in plastic cutlery - two eyes and a mouth, like an image of a monster.
