Moscow unlimited: what will surprise the capital on City Day

Moscow will celebrate its 874th birthday on the second weekend of autumn, September 11–12. A rich cultural program awaits city residents and guests of the capital. However, the pandemic continues to dictate its terms. It was decided to abandon mass celebrations. Theatres, cultural centers, and parks await guests. Many museums will be open for free on City Day, and some will even allow pets. All precautions are maintained: masks must be worn indoors and social distancing must be maintained. Halls can be filled to no more than 50%. Many events require pre-registration on the organizers' websites.

"ROSIZO Summer Cinema" (Petroverigsky lane, 4, building 1)

For City Day, Moskino will show Georgy Danelia’s film “I Walk Through Moscow” at the ROSIZO summer cinema. One of the brightest films of the Thaw, based on the script by Gennady Shpalikov, in which young Nikita Mikhalkov played his first leading role. What to watch in cinema this weekend

Moschino invites you to the capital’s oldest cinema, which recently opened after restoration. Here on this day the opening of the Military History Film Club will take place. Viewers will be shown the heroic drama “Sky of Moscow” by Yuli Raizman about Soviet fighters who defended Moscow during the Great Patriotic War. The film was shot in 1944. City Day at the Skazka amusement park

On the occasion of City Day on the weekend of September 11 and 12 at the Skazka amusement park, everyone will be able to become time travelers and visit the past, present and future.

For two days in a row in Krylatskoye, the era of dinosaurs will be replaced by the world of artificial intelligence, and then by an exciting disco in honor of the 874th anniversary of Moscow.

The festive show program called “Time Machine” will begin at 15:00 in the heart of the Skazka park and end at 18:00 there. First of all, guests of the holiday will be transported to the era of dinosaurs, where they will meet inhabitants of different periods, get to know them and make friends.

With gifts from the past, time travelers will travel to the future and find themselves visiting robots. In the new reality, the show's participants will have to fight with balloons and defend their right to return home. In the present, the heroes will be greeted by an explosive disco with guests from the past, future and memorable prizes.

In addition to the exciting show, guests of the holiday will enjoy concerts with the participation of popular artists.

On September 11, the choir of the Children's Musical Theater “Constellation of Good” will take the stage, in which multiple participants of top projects perform: “Junior Eurovision”, “Children. Voice", "Battle of Talents", "Best of All", "HeatKids", "Party Zone", "Children's New Wave" and many others.

On September 12, the creative studio for children and teenagers Muha Music will create a festive mood. Among the artists are participants and winners of major vocal competitions, festivals and projects “Voice.Children”, “Blue Bird” and “Best of All!”

Championship for unmanned aircraft "Aviarobotech - start" (6+)

On September 11, pavilion No. 55 will host the 1st unmanned aircraft championship “Aviaroboteh - Start”. Sixteen teams consisting of college and university students will participate in the tournament.

At the 1st stage of the competition, athletes will need to assemble and prepare a drone for flight from components provided by the organizers. Next, you will need to use it to deliver the cargo to the marked points.

At the 2nd stage, participants will configure software for a group of drones. 8 drones will have to build various geometric shapes.

For championship guests: a photo zone near a real airplane cockpit and a flight on a flight simulator. There will also be various free master classes on aircraft modeling for children from 6 years old.

Cup for skateboarding, wakeboarding, scootering and cycling. VDNH cups await the winners. Admission to the competition is free for spectators.

On City Day, the museum opens a posthumous large-scale exhibition of artist Oleg Tselkov, “I’m not from here, I’m a stranger.” A bright representative of Moscow unofficial art, he is known for his large-scale canvases, which combine expression and monumentality, bright colors and subtle halftones. On City Day, Zaryadye will turn into the main venue for contemporary art. Here, on September 11, an exhibition of nominees for the second Moscow Art Prize will open – the exhibition will bring together landmark projects and key works of 2021, created, according to the rules of the award, “in Moscow, about Moscow, for Moscow.”

The Media Center will feature fragments of significant exhibition projects and art series, sound sculptures and large-scale installations.

Walking tour “In the footsteps of a black cat” (0+)

On September 11 and 12 from 10:00 to 21:00 there will be exciting excursions for the whole family. The excursion starts from Tverskaya Gorka. The participants then move to the Nirnzee House. On Tverskaya Street, excursion participants will listen to stories about the ghosts of the Kozitskaya Palace and about walking houses. On Tverskaya Square, the guide will tell participants urban legends that are closely connected with this place. Next, the walk will take place along Stoleshnikov Lane, and then continue on Bolshaya Dmitrovka. Participants will visit Kuznetsky Most, where they will be told about two more city ghosts - the gray cab driver and Mademoiselle Zhuzhu. The tour will end near the State Duma, where Vasily Golitsyn’s chambers were located a long time ago, and today there are still rumors that you can encounter the ghost of Princess Sophia there.

Free walking tour “Two Gogols” (12+)

On September 11 at 16:00 in the center of the capital, not far from each other, 2 monuments to Gogol were located. The first (from the sculptor N. Andreev) was located on the territory of the Talyzin-Tolstoy city estate, where Gogol spent the last years of his life. The monument was erected in 1909, but in 1952 it was replaced by another, created by the sculptor N. Tomsky. Both monuments are completely different in their artistic message and author's idea.

The excursion will be led by the museum’s senior researcher, candidate of philological sciences Daniil Ryasov. He will talk about the history of the creation of the two works and how the sculptors’ contemporaries reacted to them.

Festivals

“Flower Jam” (Manezhnaya Square)

An annual event beloved by Muscovites. The central platform will be Manezhnaya Square. Here landscape designers created a park with walking paths and flower islands. At the fairs you can buy jam, farm products and try dishes from chefs. 19 district sites are waiting for their visitors. Also on City Day you can take part in an amateur flower gardening competition. Amateur gardeners will be invited to create their own unique landscape project. Everything you need for the flower garden will be provided by the organizers.

Moscow City Day 2021 at VDNH

A varied and promising program is planned at VDNKh in honor of Moscow City Day 2021.

Festive concert at VDNKh in honor of Moscow City Day 2021

On September 11, 2021, a festive concert organized by the Moscow 24 TV channel will take place at VDNKh in the Green Theater.

Admission to the concert is free , but you must first register on the VDNH website.

Concerts

As already mentioned, there were no large show programs for City Day in 2021, but there were concerts by Mitya Fomin, Vanya Dmitrienko, and Manizhi . They were free.

On September 11, the House of Music gave the program “Happy Birthday, Moscow!” In the Svetlanov Hall the orchestra played its most popular program “Classics of Energy. Destroying stereotypes." The audience heard well-known masterpieces, as well as works by Moscow composers, in a very unexpected arrangement.
