What not to give for Easter
Before you buy or give a gift for Easter, it is worth remembering an important thing - Easter is a religious holiday. It follows from this that not all gifts from everyday life are suitable for giving to friends and family.
Things that are better not to give on this day:
- Alcohol, except Cahors. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to rash actions and harm to health. This categorically contradicts the canons of the Orthodox faith.
- Tobacco, cigarettes. Such gifts are considered absolutely inappropriate on such a holiday, as they are harmful to health.
- Frivolous or comic congratulations and things. Orthodox Easter is a very serious holiday that symbolizes death and rebirth. You cannot show disrespect for believers by laughing at their faith.
- Intimate or personal items. The Church does not interfere in the personal lives of believers, but monitors the purity of faith. Such gifts provoke a person to sinful thoughts, which means they need to be excluded.
Every believer should remember that Easter is, first of all, the joy of rebirth without sin. Therefore, beautiful underwear or a personalized lighter with expensive tobacco can wait for a more appropriate occasion.
Friends
To find what to give your girlfriend or boyfriend for Easter, refer to the list of souvenirs and easy, delicious gifts. In a holiday basket for friends you can pack:
- carved candles and candlesticks;
- dish for Easter cake and eggs;
- set of egg cups;
- bag for prosphora;
- Easter magnet (Easter cake, bunny, chicken, painted egg);
- set of mini chocolates;
- decorative flower arrangement;
- knitted or sewn bouquet of flowers;
- souvenir angel bell;
- Easter wreath on the door;
- printed kitchen box;
- Easter topiary;
- cranberries in sugar;
- cookbook with Easter recipes.
You can and should combine gifts from different categories. Remember what friends and family gave before - you will probably find some interesting ideas among them. What additional gifts are given for Easter? A full-length rabbit costume can be a wonderful comic present. Also a nice addition to any basket will be a handmade card, homemade cookies and a small blessed Easter cake.
Easter is a joyful and exciting holiday designed for gathering and connecting with family and friends. This celebration is always an excellent occasion to give a gift, to share your love and care with loved ones.
Anastasia Skoracheva Orthodox holidays 04/2/2016
Hello, dear guests-readers of my gift blog! Now preparations begin for the brightest, most soulful and cozy holiday of spring - Easter. As with all special events (especially such important ones), it is customary to give gifts. But what to give for Easter? This is what we will talk about today.
The symbols of this day are (in addition to religious attributes) eggs, Easter cake and some other holiday dishes, as well as rabbits (this is rather a Catholic addition, but this image is slowly taking root among us.
What is better not to give?
I am not a supporter of limiting myself in choosing a gift to purely festive options. But I still wouldn’t recommend giving away some items for Easter. Namely:
- Portraits. In general, things with the image of a person (unless, of course, his birthday falls on that day, say). After all, it is an event that is joyful for everyone, not just for one person. This will seem to draw the attention of others to him, which on such a day is not the best idea. Although in some form you can still use this option, more on that later
- Alcohol. At least not wine. Yes, Lent is over, but... Easter is not a reason for global gatherings.
- Underwear and the like. It would definitely be at least strange for me to receive such a gift for Easter. It’s not a secular date... What do you think?
Also, you definitely shouldn’t congratulate those who don’t celebrate this event and constantly talk about it. Respect other people's views! Such an imposition will not cause positive emotions, but you can easily quarrel with someone close to you.
Should you give expensive gifts for Easter?
There is no definite answer to this question, since everyone has their own concept of high cost. For some, an expensive gift is a phone, but for others, a car seems like a small thing.
Despite this, it is worth remembering how Christ lived his life. The main principle of a Christian’s life is spiritual wealth, which brings us closer to the kingdom of God. Accordingly, material wealth fades into the background.
In addition, the Lord commanded to share what you have. This means that any person must make voluntary gifts from his wealth.
To sum it up, we can say the following: the price of the gift does not matter. It is the heart with which you give that matters.
The Resurrection of Christ is a great holiday for all believers. Therefore, you need to not only wish all the best, but, if possible, bring gifts of souvenirs.
