Table games with words are fun and intellectual

A real feast is not only the main course, excellent appetizers, plenty of drinks and dessert, which is usually not the case. A feast is, first of all, a fun company! Of course, the assembled guests will first taste those same dishes and drinks, then discuss personal and global problems, and after that it will be time for tales with anecdotes, harmless jokes and other fun, including games. True, well-fed guests, as a rule, do not really want to bother themselves with unnecessary body movements, so table games with words become the best option. If someone has forgotten what exactly you can play, then it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the information below.

The most famous table games with words

There are a lot of games with words that you can play without leaving the table. Many of them are familiar to everyone from childhood. Well, for example:

1) The well-known game “Words”, when each subsequent participant must name a word starting with the last letter of the word spoken by the previous player. Often this type of entertainment is complicated by the fact that you need to name words only on a certain topic. This is how the game “To the City” and other varieties appeared.

2) The table game “Burime”, in which you need to write a quatrain according to given rhymes, has not been forgotten by many. No poetic talent is required for this, and the time passes very fun.

3) A lightweight version of the Burime table game. Each participant writes 2 lines from their favorite poem on a piece of paper, folds the piece of paper and passes it to a neighbor, who writes down his lines. The result is a hilarious pun.

4) The well-known game of shifters amuses the company well. This is when a well-known phrase or line from a song is encrypted with words or phrases that are opposite in meaning and/or meaning. For example: Motorists don’t need to stand gracefully on dry asphalt (Let pedestrians run clumsily through the puddles). At the festive table, the table game of flip-flops with the names of well-known TV programs, movies, and cartoons is more fun.

5) Well, if you hand out sheets of paper from a notepad and a pen to the guests, then you can make up different words from one given and preferably long word. For example: excavator - mouth, kart, author, etc.

However, you can play other table games that are no less interesting, but for some reason not so popular.

How is the game going?

The presenter brings with him and installs special equipment - a push-button-lamp brain system. It is equipped with several remote controls with a button and LED paws on stands, which are connected to a single control panel. From this remote control, the presenter activates the game buttons and starts the general timer. The system clearly monitors the speed at which buttons are pressed and impartially determines the team that receives the right to respond.

Brain-ring begins with a cascade of questions. You need to think quickly, discuss quietly (opponents can take advantage of your hints), and if a version appears, press the button faster than the other commands and voice the answer.

If one team makes a mistake, one point is deducted, and the remaining teams get the opportunity to say the answer after resetting the timer and pressing the game button.

Questions can be video, audio, black box or using pictures/objects.

At the end of each round, consisting of a block of questions, intermediate results are summed up.

After the break, Guess the Melody . If you remember, this is a game for quickly recovering the lyrics of a song using several sounds of the backing track. The performance is unusual, so even the most killer hits can cause difficulties.

Several teams play at once (maximum - 4 teams of 6 people), you also need to guess after a quick meeting.

You are asked to guess 5 melodies from one theme; after each theme, an auction riddle is played between the teams with a small hint from the presenter. The team that makes the maximum bid can significantly change the tournament situation with one such move, because the opponents silently wait for the result during the auction.

This part of the event is even more fun and emotional, as the host selects tunes for each generation. I really like watching the game from the sidelines - it’s always interesting to watch how during each block of questions one player “comes to life” after hearing his favorite music.

Young people know all modern compositions and can sing a few words. Middle-aged ladies happily sing along to the hits of the 80s. The older generation shines on songs from Soviet comedies, while serious men jump up and down on the hits of Paul McCartney and Elton John.

Both parts of the intellectual mix are very exciting. I assure you that you will not be bored, since the questions are selected not on knowledge, but on logic. The presenter comments and kindly quotes not only correct, but also funny answers.

Table game with the words “What is next to me”

This is a fairly simple game. You need to choose one of the letters of the alphabet and name objects that begin with it and that you can reach without getting up from your seat. Participants name the words one by one. The one who has the last word wins.

One of the variants of this table game suggests naming not only nouns, but also adding various epithets to them in the form of adjectives: B - great salad, balloon, delicious pies. Of course, neither nouns nor adjectives should be repeated.

Game “Nice words or “Givi, say a toast!”

This game can be played from the very beginning of the feast until its end.

Option #1. The task of the participants is to take turns standing up and saying a phrase corresponding to the occasion of the celebration. Everything seems simple. Ah, no! The phrase spoken by the first participant must begin with the letter A, that of the next speaker - with the letter B, etc. according to the Russian alphabet. Of course, some letters, such as E, J, Ъ, И, ь, will have to be excluded from the game, but it doesn’t matter.

At first, the fun seems very easy, since the first participants, as a rule, start with phrases like: “Let’s...”, “Let’s be!..”, “Let’s drink to...”, “Gentlemen!..”, “Ladies and gentlemen!. ." But as the feast progresses, the letters become more complex, and the players become more cheerful and talkative.

Option number 2 . Write the most common abbreviations on pieces of paper (see the picture below). The guest pulls out a piece of paper and makes a toast in which each word in order begins with a letter in the abbreviation. For example: “Ministry of Internal Affairs” - toast “Let’s drink to the lovely impressive ladies

Celebrity chain

This is an analogue of the game “Words” or “Cities”, albeit with slightly modified rules. In this case, players need to take turns naming the names and surnames of celebrities, and the next player must name the person whose name begins with the letter with which the surname of the previous “star” began. For example: Leonid Brezhnev, Boris Grebenshchikov, Gennady Khazanov. You can use the first and last names of politicians, show business stars, athletes, etc.

By the way, this can be used to make a good game for drinking a whole range of table drinks. For example, if a participant could not remember anyone within 15-30 seconds, then the turn passes to the next player, and the one who failed must drink... a glass of juice.

How long does the event last?

There are many options, the ideal solution is found after a personal meeting with the presenter. You can choose any duration and content of the program, combine several different games, think about the number of rounds, etc.

As an example, I will describe a proven “mix” of “Brain-ring” and “Guess the melody”.

The timing of the event is something like this:

  • welcome buffet or coffee break
  • 1 hour Brain-ring game
  • break 30-40 minutes for free communication or gastronomic break
  • 1 hour of team game “Guess the melody”
  • continuation of the buffet-banquet

Table game “Guess who (what)”

Participants take turns thinking of a word, and the rest of the players must guess it by asking questions that can only be answered “yes” or “no.” The game becomes much more dynamic and interesting if the topic of the words being asked is discussed in advance, for example: movie characters, celebrities, animals, etc.

You can also play against the grain. This is also fun that everyone knows. Only in this case, all players are given a sticker with the name of the animal or the name of the character/star on their forehead. The player's task is to guess what is written on his forehead by asking questions.

In general, there are a lot of varieties of this table entertainment. You can guess a hidden object, pictures drawn on pre-prepared cards, objects present on the table, etc.

How to order?

It is best to email me the initial data: the date of the corporate event, the number of participants, how many men and women, what age are your colleagues, the direction of the company. Where would you like to hold the game and indicate the expected duration of the event.

Based on this information, the manager will prepare an ideal proposal specifically for your company. You will be able to discuss ideas and estimates with management and make a final decision.

Table game “Understand in 30 seconds”

This is another type of guessing game. In this case, to begin with, all players write any nouns on separate pieces of paper (each word on a separate piece of paper). To make it more interesting, everyone should write 10-15 words. Then all the leaves are rolled up and placed in an opaque bag or hat. Further events develop as follows. Players are divided into pairs (according to any principle). One of the pair members takes a piece of paper out of his hat and tries to explain to his partner/partner in “roundabout phrases” what word he pulled out. A simple example: a tram runs around the city on rails and wires. Guessing is given a limited amount of time, for example, 30 seconds or a minute. Then the second pair takes over. You can play for points, for elimination, or again for ingesting liquids. Here it’s more interesting for anyone.

Game at the Broken Phone table

Even if someone hasn’t played this game, they’ve definitely heard about it. The first player reads a certain phrase in his neighbor's ear and in a whisper so that others do not hear. The second transmits to the third, the third to the fourth, etc. The last participant voices what he heard to everyone.

Despite its simplicity, the final phrase is often significantly different from the one that was taken initially. If someone doesn't believe it, let them try it themselves. Of course, in this case, the greater the number of participants, the funnier it turns out.

What does it look like?

Intellectual games use some elements of famous television projects. Most often, this is done so that there is no need to explain the rules of the game for a long time, because your colleagues come to have fun and relax, and not study long lists of “allowed” and “prohibited”.

Get ready to play something reminiscent of the good old games “What? Where? When?”, “Brain Ring”, “Guess the Melody”, “Own Game”, “One Hundred to One”, “Understand Me”, “Field of Miracles”, etc.

I’ll say right away that the difference from well-known games will be quite significant, since the organizers need to hold a simultaneous game session for several teams, take into account the specifics of your company, the number of participants, conditions on the site, etc.

A mix can be made from Intellectual Games, which are listed with prices in this table! Read the short description and tell the manager about your preferences! It might make sense to stick to one program. If you want to try different options, order a mix!

Table game "Station Announcer"

This is also a fairly funny game, the essence of which many will understand from the name. One of the players with candies in their cheeks (adults only! And large candies so as not to choke!) reads out a phrase or passage. And the rest of the participants, armed with pens and paper, try to write down what was read. Completed recordings are read aloud. Of course, it is better if a not too well-known passage is voiced. Nobody will write down “Frost and Sun – a Wonderful Day”; everyone already remembers this whole work.

Table game “Guess where the lie is”

The game “Guess Where the Truth Is” will help you get to know each other better, even in a company you already know well. Each participant tells three facts about himself, one of which is not true. The task of the others is to guess what is true and what is false.

A variation of this game is the well-known “I have never...”. Most often, it is also played to empty cups of various drinks. Participants take turns telling what they have never done, and if there is someone in the company who has done it, then he must take at least a sip.

Where to play the games?

  1. Karaoke room or restaurant hall with monitors . The point is that you can use video questions (or show video answers). This will add variety to the game, you will agree. Our managers can choose a comfortable place to suit your budget.
  2. Office spaces (for example, meeting rooms) . There is usually room for 2-4 teams and a convenient screen. By the way, here are 20 more ideas for holding a corporate event in an office space.

Table game “Professional Storyteller”

And it’s better to play this game with a clear head. However, it will bring no less fun than all the games at the holiday table. The game is quite creative, requiring imagination and imagination. The point is this. The names of professions are written on separate pieces of paper (5-10 pieces). On other sheets of paper are written the names of famous children's fairy tales. The player first takes out a piece of paper with the name of the profession, and then a fairy tale. Well, after that he must tell the tale from the point of view of the chosen professional, if possible using specific terms and vocabulary.

For example, a fairy tale about a kolobok, from the chef’s point of view, can begin like this: “The grandmother scraped 200 g of flour from a bag with the logo of a famous brand, added 15 g of dry yeast, a glass of water, a pinch of salt and kneaded the dough...”. By the way, you don’t have to worry too much about professions. It is quite possible to get by with the real positions of the participants in the table game or their specialties in their diplomas. It will turn out even more interesting.

*** In general, you can always find something to amuse yourself during a feast. There would be a desire to have a good time, and not just fill your stomach and cloud your mind.
