Methodological development of the competition “Best Nurse”

Scenarios for a medical worker's day

Medical Worker's Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June.
On this day, patients, friends and relatives express their gratitude to doctors for their dedicated work. And, of course, doctors celebrate this holiday corporately, in a narrow circle. This is precisely the case for which the proposed scenario is designed. Dear friends! I am pleased to welcome representatives of the most humane profession - medical workers - to this festive table. You all know from your own experience that people in white coats have to work very, very hard. And this is a wonderful, selfless, heroic work, sometimes a wise saying, known since ancient times: “He works well who rests well.” Therefore, I urge you, dear medical comrades, to sit down at the festive table and forget about all your daily worries and difficulties. Let's relax!

(Music sounds, guests are seated at the tables, choose treats.)

“Best Nurse 2019”: participants talk about the competition, their worries and patients’ fears

In the capital, as part of the professional skills competition “Moscow Masters,” the best nurse of 2021 is chosen. On Saturday, May 18, the five finalists in their categories will be announced, and the “Best Nurse” will also be selected. Three participants told Moscow 24 why they chose this profession and what was the most difficult thing in the competitive race.

The professional competition “Moscow Masters” has been held in the capital since 1998. As part of the competition, the winner in the category “Best Nurse” is determined. Participants must demonstrate both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the ability to communicate with patients and work in a team. The jury also evaluates the personal qualities and professional motivation of applicants for victory.

Tatyana Egorycheva, nurse, four years of experience, City Clinical Hospital No. 52 DZM

Tatyana knew about the competition from the first year of working as a nurse, but she was ready to participate only four years later, when she gained experience. For her, completing practical tasks was quite exciting, because it was not known in advance what situations would be offered. Tatyana also notes that the jury paid special attention to the communication skills of the participants.

The nurse admits that in life, it is not only the patient who is afraid to enter the doctor's office. It is also exciting for medical staff to communicate with a new person, because they need to find an approach to him. Moreover, the department where Tatyana works deals with ear surgeries, and the patient is usually in a stressful state before the operation. Someone falls into a state of panic just at the word “anesthesia”, someone suddenly changes their mind about having an operation while preparing in the nurse’s office, and someone tries to stop the process already in the operating room itself.

In our profession, careless communication with the patient is unacceptable. Staying in the hospital is exciting for everyone, so we must help relax the patient by talking and distracting him.

For Tatyana, it is important to do everything so that before the operation the person is in a good mood and does not doubt the correctness of the actions of the medical staff. For women, the news that they will have to shave off some of the hair behind the ear before surgery is usually scary. Then Tatyana sometimes weaves “spikelets” for the patients, communicates confidentially and convinces them that this is being done for their health and for the convenience of the surgeon, so that the operation is successful.

The theme of this year's competition is “Medicine as Art!” More than five thousand nurses took part in the qualifying round. Those who passed the first stage of the main competition were faced with 200 test tasks in the specialties “Nursing”, “Nursing in Pediatrics”, “Operations”, “Anesthesiology and Reanimatology” and the direction “Primary Health Care”.

But it can also be difficult for nurses, because each visitor has his own character, and patients often pour out all their pain and accumulated anger in the office. Tatyana found a way to get rid of this negativity - extreme sports. She travels a lot, climbs mountains, overcomes her fears and relaxes her soul in nature. In winter he snowboards, and in summer he jumps from cliffs into the sea. This year he plans to climb a mountain four thousand meters high and pass the first category in mountaineering.

If we compare participation in a competition with climbing a mountain, then participating in a competition is, of course, more difficult. There are a lot of eyes here, and the support group wants you to take a prize, and you don’t want to fall in the eyes of your colleagues. It’s always harder mentally than physically.

Despite all the difficulties and high competition, according to Tatyana, there is a very friendly atmosphere at the competition, everyone treats each other with understanding and respect. And those who reached the final stage are already winners. The nurse shared that this competition stimulated her to further development; now she wants even more to stay in the profession and continue to improve her skills.

Ksenia Matveeva, nurse, 16 years of experience, State Budgetary Healthcare Institution "Children's City Clinic No. 130 DZM"

Ksenia has been in the profession for almost 16 years; she went to work as a nurse immediately after graduating from medical school. The girl already attempted to take part in the nursing competition two years ago, but she was unable to win then, due to pregnancy and poor health during a difficult period for the female body.

I am a rather ambitious girl, purposeful, and when I failed to win the first time, it hurt my pride. Therefore, this year I came in the mood to win the competition.

Ksenia was brought into medicine by her mother. She herself never worked as a nurse, but at the age of 30 she received a medical degree and always told her daughter that it would be useful, would help her better understand herself and generally navigate life. The daughter obeyed and studied her specialty, and over the years she realized that medicine was truly her life’s work.

During her first years, Ksenia worked in the intensive care unit, where she learned a lot, strengthened her spirit and gained confidence. She later switched to pediatrics and has been working with children for 13 years. The girl admits that as patients, children are almost no different from adults. The main feature is that children come to the doctor’s office not with their own fears, but with the fears of their parents. Therefore, first of all, we have to work with parents. And if the child sees that the mother’s anxiety goes away and she begins to trust the nurse, then the baby also automatically begins to trust and ceases to be afraid of any medical manipulations.

At the second stage of the main competition, 15 candidates for victory (three in each category) show their practical skills. In the simulation rooms, they must demonstrate the ability to communicate with a patient, perform medical services and provide emergency medical care.

One of the most striking tests for Ksenia at the competition was a practical task in the simulation room. “I walked into the room, greeted the jury, after which a girl immediately ran up to me and said: “Help, the man is feeling bad, we need to save him!” – the girl recalls with excitement. Here it was necessary to diagnose a person as clinically dead and bring him out of this state by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Of course, the experiments were carried out on special medical mannequins, but the level of stress among the contestants was no less than if it had happened for real.

Ksenia admits that the competition tasks themselves were not difficult for her, but the hardest thing was to overcome the stress, because with each stage of the competition the emotional intensity increased.

We are all worried, each stage is like an exam for us. You know that you are being evaluated and you want to hear that you are the first.

The nurse also noted that the competition was held very honestly: the participants were seriously monitored at all stages, they made sure that no one communicated by phone and everyone was on equal terms. Ksenia added that if she doesn’t manage to take first place this year, she will fight in the following years.

Sergey Artemyev, medical brother, 17 years of experience, State Budgetary Institution “Tuberculosis Hospital named after. A. E. Rabukhina DZM"

Nursing can be done not only by women, but also by men. Thus, one of the few male participants in the competition was Sergei Artemyev. From early childhood he wanted to be a doctor and practiced medicine on his pet cats and dogs. Of course, I didn’t give injections, but I did bandages. Also, several of Sergei’s relatives devoted their lives to working in the medical field, which further strengthened the man’s desire to continue the family tradition.

The third stage of the competition took place on May 14, where five finalists competed for the title of winner. The organizing committee of the competition in 2019 was headed by the deputy head of the Moscow City Health Department, Elena Gromova, and the deputy chairman of the organizing committee, the chairman of the RPO “Professional Union of Healthcare Workers of Moscow” Sergei Remizov.

Now Sergei works as a senior nurse in the pulmonary tuberculosis department No. 11 and at the same time receives a higher nursing education. The man notes that, despite the fact that in people’s minds, patients are usually cared for and observed by a nurse, the attitude towards the nurse is very good.

In general, we have many nurses working in intensive care and in regular departments. Patients treat me calmly, sometimes they call me doctor.

And in general, according to Sergei, discipline in the department is much calmer when there is a nurse on duty. And the profession itself teaches him composure and the ability to react in unusual situations. One of these sudden situations occurred when Sergei and his friends were going to go boating on Lake Senezh in the Moscow region. They were already far from the coast when the weather began to deteriorate and they had to return. Suddenly the guys heard someone cry for help. The guy who jumped from the boat into the lake screamed, the boat was carried away, and the poor fellow’s legs were cramped from the cold water.

Sergei and his friends turned the boat around and rushed to the rescue. Like most of those sitting in the boat, Sergei did not know how to swim, but a few meters before the drowning man, he jumped into the water, swam to the guy and dragged him to the side. Only on the shore did Sergei realize that he had rushed to save a man, completely unable to swim. The hero still cannot explain to himself how this happened, but believes that the profession of a nurse helped in this situation, and the instinct to save a person overcame internal fear. By the way, after that he miraculously learned to swim.

I cannot pass by a man lying on the street, even if he is drunk. Many people turn away, but I am drawn there: I need to go take a look and, if necessary, call an ambulance.

The nurse notes that in any work one cannot be indifferent, one must be more compassionate. And he believes that in his team every person has his place: they work together and know their job inside and out. All nurses are of the highest category with extensive experience and good schooling.

For Sergei, the competition turned out to be quite a serious test with strong competition and a high level of preparation of the participants. This is not the first time he has tried his hand at this competition, but so far he has not been able to make it to the finals. “Thanks to these attempts, I see that I am missing something, so I cannot become the best yet. But I am developing, preparing more, learning something new, becoming more experienced. This is the main thing for me,” concludes Sergei.

On May 18, as part of an event dedicated to International Nurses Day, the best nurses in Moscow will be presented with awards. On the eve of City Day, the winners of the Moscow Masters competition will receive distinctive signs, diplomas and cash rewards in the amount of 300, 200 and 150 thousand rubles for first, second and third place, respectively. For first place, the winner will be awarded a special prize - a “Hand with a Crystal” figurine.

Corporate event scenario for Medical Worker Day.

The organizers of the holiday must think through everything to the smallest detail.

Starting with the design of the room.

Prepare in advance a good quality camera and lens, or ask a professional photographer who will photograph all the doctors during working hours, then select the pictures of all the doctors.

Print and hang in the room, decorating the pictures with flowers, balloons, or make each a small applique corresponding to the character of each owner of the photo.

Lots of flowers and balloons always put you in a festive mood.

Attach a wall newspaper or a poster for Medical Worker's Day to the most visible place on the wall:

The holiday must be divided into two parts - official and entertaining.

In the official part, those invited to the celebration and officials give the floor.

Then there is an entertainment program.

Competitions are very important in the entertainment program.

Competitions for Medical Worker Day must be indirectly or directly related to medicine.

We will present several for the day of the medical worker:

Competition of promotional posters and banners “Nurse is the future of healthcare”

What does the current younger generation know about the nursing profession? How is her work perceived today in light of the pandemic? What is the importance of the nursing profession today?

The results of the poster competition “Nurse – the future of healthcare” have been summed up. By uniting professionals and beginning artists of different ages from different regions of our country from Moscow to Chelyabinsk on the Artcontract platform, we found answers to these questions in the competition works.

The presented works are made in different techniques, some of them are conceptually solid, but all of them are charged with emotions. We can say with confidence that we are satisfied with the results of the competition, although at first there was a fear that nothing good would come of it!

So, the jury chose 5 works that corresponded to the main objective of the competition and today we are announcing the winners: Rozanova Svetlana Sergeevna “Calling as a nurse”

Lomakina Anna Aleksandrovna “Nurse is the profession of the future”

Gulyaev Svyatoslav Borisovich “Nurse 2021”

About the topic and issues

When talking about doctors, we mostly hear DOCTOR, THANK YOU DOCTORS, and according to statistics, nursing staff exceeds the number of doctors by 2 times.

But a doctor cannot cope alone without a nurse. Remove nurses from any medical organization and in a few days it will cease to function!

The profession of a nurse has deep historical roots (from a nurse to a modern nurse, from an alchemist to a laboratory assistant, from a midwife to a midwife, from a zemstvo doctor to a paramedic).

The profession has disadvantages:

  • irregular schedule;
  • physical and psycho-emotional stress;
  • risk of infection from infectious patients;
  • threat from antisocial elements;
  • high responsibility.

The problem is also that doctors do not always show respect towards the nursing staff and treat them arrogantly.

Medical workers often encounter rudeness and ignorance from patients .
