Party Invitations
You can of course just call your friends on the phone or message them on social media, but don't forget that there were no cell phones or internet in the 60s, so it will be very classy if you make real invitations and send them out in advance or at least hand it over in person!
Such an invitation will remain in a person’s memory and will bring him back to that unforgettable evening again and again. In his memory. But as a last resort, you can make an invitation electronically and send it by email. But I’m still in favor of paper ones. You can make the following party invitations: on the front there will be a peace sign and a hippie-style inscription, something like “Make love, not war.” Flowers should be drawn inside, also write the details of the party, for example,
- on what occasion is she going,
- place,
- time
- specify that the costumes should be in the style of the 60s (more on which below)
Everything should be done in bright, acidic colors. Necessarily!
Invitations
An invitation to a hippie party should be bright, thematically recognizable - the same bus, guitar, tent. Draw or print a picture and glue it to the base. You can cut out the pacifist symbol and write text in a circle.
Instead of a regular paper invitation, you can make miniature topiaries and write the text directly on the pot. Or send carrier pigeons (a symbol of peace) to your friends. Of course, not real ones - figurines or postcards made by yourself.
Scenery
It is advisable that the room where the party will take place is large enough so that it can be divided into several zones:
- dance floor,
- chill out and
- dining room.
If there is a lot of furniture in the room, it needs to be taken out for a while! Hippie times, as I already said, are a riot of colors! Therefore, for decoration and decoration you will need:
- Multi-colored light bulbs! A lot of! You can buy these lamps, or you can paint them yourself! You should screw them in wherever possible! In extreme cases, garlands are also suitable, but it is better to wrap them in translucent fabric so that the party does not resemble the New Year!
- Fabrics! Lots of colorful fabrics, ribbons, ropes. You can use ribbons and fabrics to cover bottles and glasses, some home interior details! And if you really get creative with your design, you can take white chintz, tie it with ropes in some places, then immerse it in a container with diluted paint. Then dry it and tie it with rope in other places, dip it in another paint and dry it. And so several times! You will end up with incredible colored fabric!
- Do you have platinums? Great! Place them in piles here and there!
- Flowers are a must! Lots of Flowers, because hippies are their children! These flowers can be inserted into bottles wrapped in fabrics, which I wrote about earlier!
- How can I have a hippie party without a guitar??? Nobody knows how to play? - No problem! Let her be in your space. It is also very good if you can get drums, maracas, tambourines and similar instruments! Guests will enjoy playing them to the beat of the music. You'll see!
- It would be great to decorate the walls with posters with positive messages in the style of that era!
Suits
For men , linen or cotton loose-fitting shirts with colored patterns and frills, flared trousers or jeans, which have become the signature style of hippies, are definitely suitable.
Women can wear colored sundresses or floor-length dresses made of natural fabrics, with embroidery and ruffles, directly over jeans or without them. You can have ribbons woven into your hair, many long African braids, or you can simply leave straight, smooth hair with strands colored in different colors.
Platform sandals or comfortable moccasins are suitable for both men and women. Guests may be completely barefoot.
An integral attribute of the hippie subculture and a characteristic feature of their outfit are colorful beads and baubles made of beads, threads or ribbons. Moreover, hippies wear all this not only on the wrists and neck, but also on the ankle, belt and even on the forehead (ribbon around the head).
A wonderful addition and finishing touch to a hippie costume will be round or square glasses , bandanas or scarves, as well as amulets on long laces and chains.
Throw a party in your favorite color!
Dress code for the party!
What to wear to a hippie party? Naturally, bright colors are also needed here!
- The most important thing for every hippie is various colored baubles, bracelets, you can just tie some colored ropes!
- A headband or bondana is a must!
- Colored T-shirts!
How to dye a T-shirt in hippie style!
If you are a creative person and have time, make your own colored T-shirt! To color a T-shirt you will need:
- white T-shirt, which must be washed in advance (especially if it is new - the paint will adhere well) and ironed
- cardboard
- dye
What to wear? Freedom in thoughts - freedom in clothes
Transforming into hippies, feel like teenagers who “conjure” jeans and T-shirts. Paint your clothes with all sorts of colors, and add even more rainbows to your colorful T-shirts. In honor of the party, make sure that your shoes delight the public with catchy ornaments and sparkles.
Girls will look amazing in spacious sundresses made of chintz and linen. You can make your own outfit from several fringed scarves, sewing the most unique skirt. Wooden beads and bracelets, flowers in the hair will highlight the natural beauty. Refuse decorative cosmetics on this day.
It is impossible to imagine a hippie without long hair flowing below the shoulders. A bandana with a floral pattern is a must-have decoration for the “children of freedom.” Take care of a headband with a fantastically bright pattern.

Musical accompaniment for a party
The music should be light and cheerful, it should make you spin with your eyes closed and a smile on your lips! This is at the beginning and middle of the party! And at the end it’s better to put on a little sad, soulful music, with philosophical notes!
You can turn on the sounds of nature: the sound of rain, wind, or better yet, waves or forests! You can use music from the 60s and 70s. Here are some ideas for you:
- Janis Joplin
- The Beatles
- Joan Baez
- John Lennon
- Jim Morrison
- Dors
- Jimi Hendrix
- Jerry Rubin
- Abbie Hoffman
How do hippies feel about food? Making a menu
Skip gourmet meals. However, hippies love pineapples, like all other fruits and vegetables. Plan your menu in such a way that your table is bursting with the gifts of nature.
Don't complicate your life with complicated recipes. Sandwiches, light salads, juices, water. And a sea of communication!
Between meals, lie back on your pillows and listen to the sound of the forest or sea that you have taken care of in advance. The sounds of falling raindrops will help you relax and enjoy peace as much as possible. And fill yourself with tenderness and love for the world, nature, and the people around you.
Menu
There is a strict NO to excesses!
After all, we are having a hippie-style party, which means there will be no hazel grouse in pineapples or French-style meat! It’s best to make different snacks: sandwiches, baskets, simple salads!
What you need is fruit! Lots of different fruits, whole, uncut! Although I would make one central dish! Some very exotic Indian, for example.
Let there be a lot of spices and unusual tastes!
Drinks should be simple too! Juices, water, simple cocktails. But it's up to your taste! Organize the table low so that you can sit on the floor on cushions and eat! You can put wide boards, like cabinet doors, on books and cover them with fabrics!
Food and drink
The beauty of a hippie party is that it doesn't require tableware at all. And you don't need a table either. Have a picnic outdoors, and at home, place a bright tablecloth directly on the floor, as if you were gathered around a fire.
If the table remains, lay a linen tablecloth on it. Place wild flowers. Replace glassware with earthenware. The dishes were served in a bowl and metal plates. The design should be varied, exactly a piece from each culture. If you want to use disposable tableware, then only wooden ones will do - the hippies tried not to use plastic.
Many of them were vegetarians and never strove for luxury. The menu should be simple and easy:
- Fresh and baked vegetables. An abundance of herbs: parsley, dill, basil, celery, etc.
- Marinated or baked mushrooms.
- Light canapés.
- Barbecue, boiled meat, fish baked in foil.
- For dessert - berries and fruits.
- Drinks include green or herbal tea, juice, berry infusions.
Pay attention to the presentation of food. You can do this on large plates or trays, as if you were in nature. Place hot dishes and salads from the pan. Use wooden utensils or eat with your hands if the dishes allow it. Meat or fish should be cut in advance.
Program
There is no need to make the program tough and force guests to play some games by force, because today you are hippies - children of flowers and freedom! Everything should be soft and unobtrusive! As usual, it’s better to split the evening into several parts: eating - playing and socializing, dancing - snacks... I have a large collection of competitions on the site, but here are a couple just for today’s party in the style of 60 and hippies.
- Competition for a hippie party: “Let’s draw together. Hang a sheet of whatman paper on the wall. Place colorful markers, markers or pencils nearby. The task of all those present is to contribute and draw a peace sign during the evening. Big and beautiful! And it’s beautiful because it’s painted with flowers and butterflies!
- Guessing with flowers. To do this, you need to make several flowers and write positive and cheerful wishes, predictions, and fortune telling on the reverse side. Place these flowers around the room, let guests tear off the petals throughout the evening and read out their predictions!
- Collect beads! The guests' task is to quickly collect beads from fruits!
Here, friends, have a party in hippie style! Become flower children, become free, and remain free forever
Hippie style party. Peace, Love, Freedom!
Living in harmony with nature, refusing social recognition in the name of free love, protesting against war, puritanism and social norms. Do you want to feel like a peaceful rebel? Then a hippie party is for you!
This themed event is perfect for cheerful, friendly and quirky people. And such films as “House of the Sun”, “Hair” and “Across the Universe” will help you get into the hippie philosophy. Plunge into the expressive world of flowers, joy and love!
Venue and time
It is very difficult to imagine the holiday of “flower children” indoors. Of course, the party should take place outdoors: in the forest, near the river. Give the opportunity to truly roam the spirit of freedom. No social boundaries or moral restrictions!
Obviously, this idea is optimal for those who celebrate their birthday in the summer. If the weather doesn't cooperate, throw a hippie party indoors. Just no glamorous cafes and dark bars, much less pretentious restaurants. Organize the event in an apartment, preferably with a large and spacious room. With successful design, the party will turn out no worse than in nature!
Calculate the time to start the party so that the party lasts throughout the night. Don't forget that hippies are free people who have no time restrictions.
Party decoration
If the party will take place outdoors, organize a joint ride on themed transport. It has to be a Volkswagen Camper Van! The spacious and affordable freedom car was ideal for nomadic life. The hippievan, painted in all the colors of the rainbow, stood out on the road.
If it is not possible to rent such a minibus, any other will do: all you have to do is decorate it in the appropriate style!
When holding an outdoor party, be sure to pitch several bright tents around the area.
Make sure there is space for the toilet and trash can. Do not cut down trees or bushes under any circumstances. Set up a safe place to start a fire. You'll need it for entertaining or cooking. Spread colorful blankets directly on the grass and take with you several colorful pillows for sitting. You can also use hemp and large logs for this purpose. Decorate the surrounding trees with colorful ribbons and paper garlands.
Create an extraordinary psychedelic environment that explores the idea of cheerfulness, love and spiritual freedom. Give complete freedom to your imagination using the colorful palette of sun, love and nature! The color scheme should be bright, but not acidic, so that the end result is a kind and positive atmosphere that gives joy.
If you are organizing a party indoors, decorate it with original things such as aroma lamps, figurines, mandalas, colorful posters, dream catchers. Scatter colorful pillows with oriental patterns around the perimeter of the room; you can later sit on them and relax or meditate. Moroccan rugs would also be appropriate here. Give pride of place to hookahs and smoking pipes. Zavodila.com is always for a healthy lifestyle, but it is simply impossible to ignore the fact that hippies used drugs.
Place the most famous hippie slogans .
“Make love, not war” (“Make love, not war”).
"All You Need Is Love!" ("All you need is Love!").
"Flower Power"
"Give Peace A Chance"
“Hell No, We Won't Go!”
There must be ethnic musical instruments: guitar, tambourine, maracas, Darbuka or Djembe drum, harmonica, Didgeridoo wind instrument. Any rattles or bells will do. And the more, the better, then everyone can feel like a free musician. Or, in the end, take spectacular photos!
Invitations
The easiest way is to send a newsletter about the party on social networks or call all your friends by phone. However, remember that the invitation itself should convey the atmosphere of the planned event. An invitation that can be touched remains with a person as a memory of a pleasant pastime. And besides, true hippies did not communicate by telephone, much less via the Internet.
It doesn’t take much time to make a creative invitation. Cut out a flower from paper or use a printed photo with the symbolic hippie sign - “pacific” .
On the front side write one of the hippie slogans, you can use different phrases for everyone. On the reverse side, indicate the occasion, place and time. Along with each invitation, give your friend a small flower tied with a bright ribbon.
Costumes for a hippie party
Simplicity and practicality, natural fabrics and bright colors, clothes should be as comfortable as possible. Hippies mostly wore old, restored items and had bright patches on them. Abstract drawings, ethnic notes in clothing, original jewelry, mixing different styles made the “flower children” stand out from the crowd. With their outfits they broke certain boundaries between the cultures of different countries.
The promotion of free love was well manifested especially in women's clothing. It was the hippies who introduced jeans into fashion; before them it was the lot of workers. When choosing a costume for this party, stay away from dull colors and conservatism.
For girls: wear long, loose sundresses and fluffy skirts, bright T-shirts, blouses with floral patterns, flared jeans with colored patches, wicker sweaters.
For guys: flared jeans, wide leg pants, ripped jeans, colorful T-shirts with abstract designs, loose-fitting shirts and vests.
Shoes should be simple and comfortable: sandals, wicker sandals, moccasins, and boots in the cold season. Because of their poverty and attraction to nature, hippies often walked barefoot.
Both girls and boys wore jewelry. An abundance of baubles made of beads or bright laces, all kinds of beads and pendants, pendants, sunglasses with round lenses, a headband, large earrings and jewelry with peace symbols. Long hair was decorated with flowers or feathers, and braids were woven.
A shoulder bag decorated with fringe will also successfully complete the look.
Treats
Don’t try to seat all your guests at a beautiful festive table; get away from everyday life and aesthetics. No serving! Hippies are poor people. They often begged and exchanged their jewelry for food, so they ate what they could get. Many were vegetarians, keep this in mind when planning your party menu. Spicy and spicy food was also to my taste. If you are celebrating outdoors, be sure to cook something over the fire. Fry the meat (not everyone was vegetarian!), bake potatoes in the coals, cook vegetable stew in a pot.
Decorate all dishes with fresh flowers (violets, flax flowers, daisies) and herbs. Flowers can also be made from cucumber slices, tomato strips, and thin slices of red beets. The food is simple, but that doesn't stop you from serving it creatively!
Here is a sample menu for a hippie party:
- Vegetable cutting (vegetables can be fresh or baked).
- Vegetarian pizza.
- All kinds of herbs (parsley, dill, basil, celery leaves, tarragon, cilantro).
- Boiled or barbecued meat.
- Fish baked in foil.
- Mushrooms (marinated or baked).
- Canapes.
- Fruits and berries.
- Drinks: green or herbal tea, juice, compote, water.
- Alcohol can be absolutely anything.
- For dessert - chocolate cupcakes decorated with multi-colored sprinkles, heart-shaped cakes, and different types of nuts.
Place a large blanket directly on the floor so that everyone at the party can sit in a circle. Place treats on multi-colored communal plates (you can also use disposable ones) and everyone will take what they like. You can serve food directly in pots and bowls. If possible, do not use cutlery, so cut the meat and fish into portions in advance. Before eating, be sure to charge all food with positive energy. To do this, hold hands with each other, creating a circle, thank the Universe for the opportunity to get everyone together and let everyone say a short wish.
If you prefer to serve your food away from the floor, then there is the option of a buffet decorated with flowers.
Entertainment
No presenters, animators or other clowns. In order for the holiday scenario to fit the lifestyle of informal pacifists, the entertainment program should not be harsh and intrusive. Hippies did not strive to compete and fight with each other. Be guided by this when choosing games and competitions.
“Face painting” Prepare face painting paints, watercolors or finger paints and brushes in advance. Break into pairs at random and start making art. Paint any exposed part of your partner's body with a party theme. It could be a pacifist sign, a flower, a heart, any plant.
“Lottery ticket” Everyone who comes to the hippie party writes a specific task on a piece of paper - whatever comes to mind at that moment (sing, dance, hug a passerby). Those who have too much imagination can write several. Let them have a reserve in case of impracticability. All the notes are put into a bag, and then everyone draws out a “mission” at random. Not enough imagination? Keep ready-made versions of tasks for forfeits.
"Limbo" For this game you will need a ribbon or rope. Two people take turns holding it by both edges, stretching it in opposite directions. To the sound of cheerful music, everyone walks under the ribbon, which drops lower and lower each time. The task is to bend so much as not to catch the tensioned tape during the next pass. Those who hit the mark are eliminated; in the end the most flexible ones will be determined.
“Weaving baubles” Prepare a sufficient amount of beads, beads and fishing line. Choose the brightest colors, different sizes and materials from which the beads are made. Sit in a circle and put all the necessary material in the middle, you can mix all the beads in one bowl. Give a small keepsake for another party guest. To determine who will try for whom, write the names of the guests on pieces of paper, put them in a bag and pull them out without looking.
“Frozen Figure” Music is playing and everyone is dancing, the music suddenly stops and the dancers freeze in their movement. Using facial expressions and speech, try to motivate each other. The one who moves is eliminated. At the end of the game, the most persistent ones remain.
“Game with clothespins” This is a competition for the most liberated hippies. Divide the players into pairs of opposite sexes. Participants are blindfolded and clothespins are attached to different parts of their clothing. The task of the couples is to find all the clothespins on their partner as quickly as possible.
Hippie music
Rock and roll, psychedelic music and jazz.
The titles of many songs became slogans, and the most beloved ones became anthems.
The musical icons of the subculture were and remain:
- Janis Joplin
- Jim Morrison
- John Lennon
- Jimi Hendrix
- Jerry Rubin
- Abbie Hoffman
- The Doors
- The Beatles
- The Grateful Dead
It’s great if one of the guests plays the guitar, this will allow you to experience the musical life of free travelers even more deeply.
Towards the end of the party, you can turn on beautiful meditative music .
Relax and rejoice, dance and hug, have fun and take pictures. Give each other positivity and love. After all, hippies are not only drugs, music and sex. This is a mysterious Universe where peace, harmony, freedom, love and friendliness rule!

Fashionable images for personal ideas
You can read and listen a hundred times, but without applying something new in practice, you will never comprehend its essence. Therefore, look at the photos, get inspired and try on a slightly crazy, bright, reckless style. The cocktail of freedom and creativity requires only one secret ingredient - courage.
Beautiful hippie girlEntertainment
The bride needs to think about how to entertain her bridesmaids at the party. Going to a club, bowling or karaoke is not the best option for the boho style; it is more typical for a calm but fun pastime. If the party takes place in a cafe, you can spend time talking or quizzing on the traditions of different countries. If you discuss this point with the administration in advance, you can bring national board games with you.
A bachelorette party in nature allows you to fully embrace the boho style. For example, girls can dance in the open air, and in the evening they can sing songs with a guitar around the fire. You can also weave jewelry together or design accessories for the wedding, for example, a book of wishes. Particularly brave girls can row a boat on a lake or pond, pick berries and mushrooms in the forest, or hitchhike to another city.
Active competitions are usually not held at such a bachelorette party, but you can arrange mini-competitions for the best dance, song or overall image. Prizes include wooden boxes, items of clothing with ethnic patterns, pendants on a chain or dream catchers.
Place and time
Traditionally, it is believed that a boho bachelorette party should be held in the summer, since in this case you can organize a party closer to nature. However, in cold weather this option for holding an event is also possible, you just need to find a suitable room.
In winter, you can rent a house in a heated camp site or a country house. It’s good if the bride or her relatives have a dacha or plot in the village - the party can be organized there, away from the noise and bustle of the city. If you can’t find a suitable room, you can have a bachelorette party in any cafe or restaurant with a suitable design.
The interior should be dominated by decorative elements made from natural materials. Ideally, the decoration of the room will be wooden, instead of carpets there will be animal skins, and instead of chandeliers there will be decorative candlesticks and candelabra. The atmosphere should not be gloomy - you need to choose a house or cafe with a cozy atmosphere without a hint of luxury.
If the bachelorette party will still take place in the summer, then it is better to get out into nature. This could be a forest lawn or clearing not far from a flower or grain field. It’s good if you can find a suitable place near a body of water, for example, a lake or pond, where there will be no strangers.
Styles and silhouettes
A simple cut, distinguished by simplicity and originality, in the 2000s, still brings such clothes into the trends of modern fashion. Allows you to comply with modern fashion trends and sometimes influence them. Straight or flared dresses, full skirts gathered at the waist, and loose blouses are very comfortable. Loose silhouettes do not restrict movement at all.
What is “boho style”?
Probably, not everyone knows that the word boho comes from the French “bohemian”. This is what they used to call creative people who, although they were talented, their earnings left much to be desired. Poets, painters, actors - all these were representatives of bohemians who were constantly short of money. Having financial difficulties, they put on the things that they managed to get. Naturally, all the clothes were different in style: they combined everything possible, because we were talking about people of creative professions with a rich imagination. It combined catchiness and elegance, floridity and whimsy. One thing is for sure: the peculiar Bohemian “cocktail” of styles looked very original!
By the way, not only creative people, but also nomadic gypsies dressed in the boho spirit. Multi-layering, the presence of accessories, brightness and play of contrasts - all this was alluring and impressive.
Over time, the concept of “bohemian” has changed somewhat, but the boho style has not lost its relevance to this day. Moreover, boho parties, outfits, decor and celebrations are not just a fashion trend, but are the hottest trend!
