Show lesson
Even if the concepts of “performance” and “school” seem incompatible to you, then Teacher’s Day is a reason to make an exception. Surprise your children with a lesson that includes show elements.
On the occasion of the holiday, demonstrate your talents by integrating them into your classes: if you know how to play a musical instrument, play it; if you sing well, you will surprise your students with your vocal abilities. Or try to stir up the guys by “presenting” your subject under the sauce of “performance”.
“I graduated from school more than 15 years ago, but I still remember how our foreign language teacher came to class dressed in a fur coat, and under it a bunch of different clothes. And he, like a cabbage, took off one thing after another and said in English: “This is a coat, this is a tie,” and so on. I remember this lesson for the rest of my life,” admits Almaz Khamidullin, a mathematics teacher and director of the Unber Lyceum in Kazan.
Show lessons are an excellent tool for relieving psychological stress. In addition, such activities (if done not too often) help not only make students take a fresh look at the subject, but also establish more trusting relationships with them.
On Teacher's Day, the President congratulated all Russian teachers on their professional holiday
Teachers' Day is celebrated in Russia. Vladimir Putin congratulated all Russian teachers. And he spoke with the laureates and finalists of the “Teacher of the Year” competition via video conference. A modern school requires that the teacher be proficient in digital technologies. But, as the president emphasized, even the most advanced ones will not replace the teacher’s personality.
And they waited! 10th "B" from Tyumen gymnasium No. 16 and their class teacher Ekaterina Kostyleva. An oil physicist by education and a teacher by vocation, this time she won an absolute victory in the all-Russian “Teacher of the Year” competition. And the secret of success, she shared with the head of state, is in her own law, which she developed over the years of teaching schoolchildren the laws of the universe.
E. Kostyleva: On one of the competition days, I talked about the simple formula of three pedagogical “Ps”. These are “conductor”, “immersion” and “persona”. In my opinion, a teacher is a guide who accompanies a child along the path of his scientific knowledge.
V. Putin: I proceed from the fact that a conductor is not a technical role of a conductor, but a person who works with meaning, and is immersed, himself immersed in the profession, immersed in the subject.
85 five laureates of the “Teacher of the Year” competition from all regions of the country are all, of course, people immersed in the profession.
Five winners, like Ekaterina Kostyleva, were awarded crystal pelican statuettes. Among them is also Anastasia Shramko, a teacher of Russian language and literature from Stavropol. Maria Golovanova, English teacher from Kazan. Artem Barat, physics teacher from Moscow.
And history teacher from Khabarovsk Dmitry Morozov: “In general, it is very important to demonstrate to the children that opportunities for development are all around us right now.”
The fact that he himself strictly follows this principle became clear after Dmitry Morozov proposed to the president to create “Russia is my history” theme parks in every region of the country. He and his colleagues inspected the site of this multimedia project in the capital before starting the conversation.
D. Morozov: It is very important that children study history not only with the help of history textbooks, but also do it with the help of modern technologies that are close and understandable to them.
V. Putin: Of course, we need to use the entire arsenal of today’s means. For what - in order to teach a person to think. This is extremely important. Of course, it is very important to know what happened, where, when it happened. Know dates, names. It is important. But that's only part of the job. What are these dates needed for? In order to understand what time was happening, what was developing at this moment, at this time, what was the situation, well, in this case in our country, throughout the world. What challenges did our people face? Who, how, and by what means solved the problems facing us, and what it led to later, to what results. What should we do today in order to ensure tomorrow?
However, the arsenal of modern means does not always work for good, a rural teacher from the Leningrad region shared her concern with the head of state. The uncontrolled spread of pseudo-educational services on the Internet that are fighting for children’s minds also poses a real threat.
M. Timchenko: As a teacher and parent, I am, of course, concerned about the safety of my students when interacting with information on the Internet.
V. Putin: We know that, unfortunately, all sorts of unscrupulous people out there who don’t think about anything other than profit, use the Internet to make maximum profit. And, excuse the bad manners, they didn’t care about the fate of people and children. That is why there is incitement to suicide here, and child pornography is distributed here. Well, whatever there is. And all this informational nonsense that drives children crazy, leads them to extreme, I don’t even want to say now, to what events. I, like you, believe that our schools should use state information resources. This does not mean at all that we should reduce the space of freedom here to a minimum. Not at all.
At the same time, any teacher should be able to not only convey useful information, but also do it in an interesting way. It is no coincidence that it is precisely this approach that gives the highest marks at the “Teacher of the Year” competition. And the best practices need to be disseminated as widely as possible, the president agreed with the teachers.
V. Putin: Today our rocket launched into space. Without mathematics, where would it start? After all, you know, how interesting it is, how you can present it all.
E. Kocharyan: The competition gives us experience. Experience to know yourself, experience to also motivate children. At this year's competition we felt like real stars. We received the attention of the media and the parent community. We even walked the red carpet.
V. Putin: You just said: “We felt like real stars.” You are the stars. You are the real stars. Especially those who made it to the finals of the “Teacher of the Year” competition. Well, absolutely, I assure you. And there is nothing to be ashamed of. You just need to show up, the state should give you the opportunity to prove yourself and lead millions of our young compatriots, millions of boys and girls who would become interested in the relevant subject and then devote their lives to it. And they would achieve success for the benefit of their own families, and realize themselves for the benefit of the country.
In achieving these goals, according to Vladimir Putin, the role of teachers cannot be overestimated. And in order to emphasize their highest social significance, 2023 in Russia, the head of state said, will be declared the Year of the Teacher.
Do good
“Instead of entertainment, help and care for those who need it,” is the motto of teachers and schoolchildren from the Orekhovskaya secondary school, Moshensky district, Novgorod region. On Teacher's Day, children go to visit retired teachers, bring flowers and food, drink tea with them and communicate. Acting director of the school Svetlana Barabanova says that such meetings are a good tradition that brings generations together:
“Older people really appreciate the attention of young people, they rush to find out from them news about their parents, from whom they also once taught lessons, and to talk about how they lived and studied before.”
To coincide with Teacher's Day, raise funds for a charity fund or food for a homeless animal shelter. Such shelters always need not only financial help, but also volunteers: invite students to go there as a class to look after the shelter’s residents or play with them.
Another option for celebrating the holiday is to join the all-Russian campaign “Forest instead of a bouquet.” The essence of the campaign is that instead of flowers, teachers are given a personalized certificate for a tree that will be planted by volunteers in places where the forest has been damaged by a fire, insect infestation or other natural disaster. Or you can buy not a certificate, but a real seedling and plant it on the school grounds.
Teacher's Day - history of the profession
The emergence of the education system dates back to the times of Ancient Egypt. It is believed that the first public schools appeared under the Middle Kingdom pharaoh Mentuhotep II, who lived two millennia before the birth of Christ. The school was led by the Pharaoh's treasurer. The curriculum included reading, mathematics, and writing. In addition, students studied the art of horseback hunting and developed combat skills.
The emergence of schools is closely related to statehood. The more the ruler's power develops, the greater the need for competent administrators. An ancient Egyptian scribe is a person who not only writes down the will of the pharaoh. He is a government official who collects taxes and distributes public works. The scribe is able to calculate how much provisions the army will need for the campaign. Only highly qualified specialists could perform such a volume of work. Whether the ancient Egyptian scribes were only men or whether there were women among them, history is silent. The first public school in history accepted the children of the pharaoh and members of the nobility.
In the Far East, the first public schools were founded in China during the Xia Dynasty (ca. 2076–1600 BC). Boys were taught literature, magical rituals, archery, writing and mathematics. Girls - behavior, silk production and weaving.
The first position in the state education system that arose along with schools was not a teacher, oddly enough, but a director. Pharaoh's treasurer was both the head of the school and the one who taught the children. The need for assistants arose when more officials were needed than one person could train. This is how the first mentors came to the school. They passed on to their children what they themselves knew.
The teaching profession as a separate type of activity is associated with Confucius. He is considered the first teacher in the sense of the word in which this concept is used in the 21st century.
But teachers appeared for the first time in Ancient Greece. This was the name given to the household servants who took the child to school and brought him back. Teaching was not the responsibility of the teacher. The closest person to his functions was Uncle Savelich under Pyotr Grinev (A.S. Pushkin, “The Captain’s Daughter”).
Pedagogy was formed at the turn of the 17th–18th centuries. Enlightened people began to think about raising children, including those from working families. Francis Bacon, Voltaire, and Rousseau wrote about education. Thus, Jean-Jacques Rousseau pointed out in his writings that personality is cultivated like a gardener forms the crown of a tree, and not created like a worker grinds a blank. That is why the child needs educators. And finally, the youngest element of the education system was the corresponding ministry.
let's play
Games will help bring excitement and competition to the holiday. Hold “fun starts”, an intellectual quiz with the participation of teams of teachers and high school students, or competitions with comic tasks.
What do you think of the idea of organizing a board game tournament? In this case, it is better to take quick “board games” with simple rules. “Jenga”, “UNO”, “Mafia” are suitable - they are interesting to play, and the players are not boring to watch.
As an alternative to game competitions, future mathematics teacher Lyudmila Sherysheva from Veliky Novgorod proposes holding... elections:
“Students vote for their teachers in different categories: “Most fun”, “Most stylish”, “Most loyal”, “Most demanding”, “Like to give bad marks”, “Crib hunter” and so on. Voting takes place online on the school website or the old fashioned way - on paper forms that are thrown into ballot boxes. And at the end of the day, the results are summed up and the winners are awarded.”
Pedagogical collage
The founder of the community of Russian collagists “Cut and Glue” Olga Kirsanova recommends using this technique as a tool for joint creativity. On Teacher's Day, try creating your own holiday-themed collage with your students. Ask the children to prepare in advance everything that may be useful for work - photographs of classmates, teachers, the director, clippings from magazines, old books or newspapers, as well as glue and scissors.
“The undeniable advantage of collage is that, unlike drawing, anyone can take it up without having any special skills. This is such a quick entrance into creativity - without limits and unnecessary worries about your crookedness,” says Olga.
It is possible that the masterpiece will not turn out the first time, but the release of creative energy will definitely take place. In addition, the result of joint work will look good on the blackboard as a congratulation for the entire teaching staff.
