Olga Ivolga: trainings, consultations on Skype for leading holidays

Everything is not always perfect and wonderful at a holiday. Popular parasitic words in the presenter's language.

The other day I conducted a small investigation and came to a very interesting conclusion: the most popular adjectives with which the presenter’s speech are “wonderful” and “wonderful.” What's bad about it? Nothing good: and these are the most accurate beautiful words ? In general - yes. Namely, in general: generally, in general terms, collectively, approximately, vaguely, approximately, inaccurately, non-specifically.

Of course, this is dishonest towards the holiday and the public and, therefore, false. I just want to say to the presenter: “You’re lying all the time! Tell the truth!"

Meet: everything is WONDERFUL and WONDERFUL!

Long live the host's opening speech !

  • ... and on this wonderful (summer, autumn, winter, spring) day we were all brought together by a wonderful occasion...
  • ... I am glad to welcome you to this beautiful hall...
  • ...we are celebrating a wonderful event in the lives of two loving people...
  • ... congratulations on a wonderful event in your life...
  • ... today there are wonderful guests here who know Anya and Andrey (Lena and Petya) very well

Familiar phrases, right? They fall into the ears of the public as cloying, sugary, and insincere, especially if they are pronounced with assiduous frequency. As a result, any speeches, no matter what they are about, are perceived by the audience as a deliberately false game, and the presenter during the holiday looks like a hypocritical idle talk. Oh, how beautiful and wonderful everything is with us! Where are the specifics? What did the presenter want to emphasize with these stock adjectives? Nothing: everything is just wonderful. That's all? How cheap!

Why is the day wonderful, or what could it be like?

Open spoiler and finish reading

Why is the day wonderful? What if there is bad weather outside all day, terrible cold? It is enough to add honest information and the day will play out completely differently: on this long-awaited, exciting, festive day, July, September day. What could be a reason other than a wonderful one? The reason can be common: “We were all brought together by a common reason for the holiday.” Or an amazing reason.

Why is the hall so beautiful? Let's say it's a really good and beautiful hall in every sense. So, since it is so good, then why shouldn’t this room be luxurious, cozy, spacious, and elegantly decorated? Finally rich? But what’s great about it if it’s too small for the number of guests gathered, narrow, uncomfortable, and also smoky or, as often happens, cold from the hard work of air conditioners or the radiators heat up disgustingly, so that people’s teeth are chattering from the cold? You understand that the presenter now looks like a complete hypocrite: just to say something “beautiful and wonderful.” An event, if not beautiful and not wonderful, then let it be believable: unique, historical, unforgettable, happy. Now we get to the wonderful guests. What if it’s not a stock phrase? Wonderful guests are stupid, naive, just nothing, zero. Just to simultaneously omit them and not really say anything about them. Why not say: “...your welcome guests have gathered...” Precisely welcome ones! Let people be pleased to hear that they were wanted to see them, waited for. They are dear guests. Do the guests know Anya and Andrey very well? Not at all. The groom's uncle sees his nephew's wife for the first time. What if he just loudly declares this after uttering a “wonderful” phrase? You'll have to make puns on the go to smooth out the reckless jamb. In general, this phrase is ridiculous. Another one asks to take its place: “...the guests whom you invited to share your holiday with you,” “who came to rejoice for your day...”

Well, okay: let at least something at the holiday be beautiful and wonderful. It doesn’t hurt the guests’ ears if the host notices that today is truly a wonderful day, and so is the occasion. Or a solemn day - that’s also true. Nobody argues. But from the mouth of the presenter, everything around the same, monotonous .

Everything is GOOD, BEAUTIFUL marquise!

The top popularity of parasitic words are “good”, “excellent” . If they are in moderation, they are really good. And if other adverbs are used for dilution, then this is not only excellent, but also cool, nice, brilliant, cool, cool, and even weird! And, as Ellochka the Ogress says: “Brilliance, Darkness, Beauty and Ho-ho!” If you play around, you can collect dozens of such “cool” words and never repeat them once during the evening - you would want to surprise yourself.

“Good” and “excellent” roll off the tongue unconsciously, mechanically:

  • as an assessment of action.

Example: Is everyone ready? Great! Have you had a drink? Great! Shall we dance? Fine! But first a toast, do you mind? Great!

  • as a catchphrase when meeting:

Example: What is your name? Anya? Fine! And you? Andrey? Great!

What is good and excellent for the presenter in this case: that the person is called that or because he told the presenter his name? Re-use of stock words. Is there really nothing more to say for Anya and Lena?
