How did it appear?
When and how did the men's holiday appear? It turns out that it has existed for 15 years, and its establishment was initiated by the first (and last) president of the USSR. M. Gorbachev. The proposal found support in the UN and a number of public organizations. So men now have their own personal holiday.
It must be said that despite the fact that the holiday has been celebrated since 2000, people still don’t know what date men should be congratulated. The date of the holiday is variable; it falls on Saturday in the first week of November .
history of the holiday
There has been talk for a long time about the need for a special date for men. In the 1960s, it was proposed to take February 23 as a basis. However, such attempts did not gain widespread support among the world community. The active work of Professor Oaster, who directed the Center for Men's Studies at the University of Missouri-Kansas, moved the matter forward. In February 1990, the first ceremonial events were held in the United States. The tradition of celebration was adopted by Malta. Thanks to the Malta Men's Rights Association, it continued until 2009, after which the celebration was moved to November, following other states.
International Men's Day was first celebrated on November 19 in Trinidad and Tobago in 1999. The initiator of the celebrations was Dr. Jerome Teeluksingh from the University of the West Indies. He chose his father's birthday as the date of the holiday. By personal example, he confirmed his gratitude and personal respect for his father’s authority in the family and society.
Traditions
The holiday has not yet gained significant popularity. However, celebration traditions have already developed.
Immediately after its founding, on this day it was decided to present a special “Men’s Prize”. It was awarded to figures in various fields of activity: business, science, politics, culture, who in the past year have achieved significant success in their professional sphere and public life.
However, this award was named so conditionally; it had no material value. The winner was given a small bronze copy of Rodin's statue "The Thinker". The prize was awarded from 2000 to 2006, then this tradition was forgotten.
Otherwise, there are no special rules and canons for how the men’s holiday is celebrated. Men can spend this day in a way that allows them to enjoy themselves. Well, women will be able to once again demonstrate their care for their beloved men: prepare a festive dinner, pay more attention to them.
Even if no festive events are planned for the first Saturday of November, it is worth congratulating the men you know on their day. Pictures, funny cards and a few warm words cost nothing, and the man who received the congratulations will be pleased to know that they think about him and want to please him.
Gifts for men
Hobby gift. A gift that matches a man's hobbies will be a great holiday gift idea. The car enthusiast will be pleased with the accessories for the car. A lover of active recreation will be delighted with camping equipment, equipment for fishing or hunting.
Accessories. A tie, belt, purse, cufflinks, or a set of personalized handkerchiefs will be an excellent gift that will highlight the style and serve as a reminder of the giver.
Reward. An award stylized as an old certificate, an Olympic medal or an Oscar statuette for the individual merits of a man will be an original idea for a gift on World Men's Day.
Gift Certificate. A gift certificate for shooting at a shooting range, playing paintball, quad biking or water skiing will be an excellent gift for a lover of extreme sensations.
The role of men in society
Men and women have differences not only in terms of physiology, but also in the way of thinking and psychological characteristics of the individual.
Representatives of the stronger sex, as a rule, are more aggressive, warlike and assertive. In addition, they are more prone to logic and rationalism. But they are no different in intuition and the ability to do several things at the same time without loss of quality.
Although, of course, it cannot be said that all men are the same. Leadership qualities are not always the distinctive qualities of a male personality. Each person is individual, and his character traits are determined not only by gender, but also by upbringing, social factors, etc.
Historically, men occupy dominant roles in society. In most cultures, for centuries, women have been assigned the role of wife and mother exclusively. However, history knows many examples of women acquiring enormous power through their husbands or lovers. Suffice it to recall the famous Marquise de Pompadour, without whose advice King Louis XV of France practically did not make decisions.
Nowadays, the social roles of men and women have undergone significant changes. More and more women are striving to realize themselves in the professional sphere, and some men are happy to take maternity leave instead of their wives to care for their children.
Is it good or bad? Of course, on the one hand, the foundations of society and the family, as the main unit of society, which have developed over centuries, are being violated. From another point of view, every person gets the opportunity to realize their potential, regardless of gender.
Competitions for men
The most charming and attractive The competition can accept an arbitrary number of participants. The presenter gives each man a blank sheet of paper. In the allotted time, participants must go around the women present at the competition and collect their kisses. The one who ends up with the most will receive the title of “The Most Charming and Attractive”.
Keep the news in your fist For the competition, you need to prepare large sheets of newspapers, the number of which will correspond to the number of players. Participants must take newspapers by the corner and hold them at arm's length. At the leader's command, they must try to collect the paper into a fist. The one who can do this the fastest wins the competition.
Endurance For the competition, lemons should be prepared in advance, in quantities equal to the number of participants. Each man is given a citrus fruit. Their task is to peel the fruit, divide it into slices and eat it without making a face. The one who completes the task faster gets first place in the competition.
Interesting facts about the stronger sex
Men have a much stronger herd instinct than women. Therefore, most guys prefer to discuss problems and accept important issues by consulting with friends or relatives. But girls, on the contrary, prefer to solve most issues on their own.
Interestingly, men's vision perceives moving objects better than static ones. This is an echo of ancient ancestors who were engaged in hunting. This feature should be taken into account by women. If a girl wants to attract a guy’s attention, then she should move: dance or at least periodically refill his tea. This way she has a much better chance of being noticed than if she sits modestly in a corner.
Another interesting feature: when men look at an object, they perceive it as a whole, paying little attention to details. That's why girls often get offended by their boyfriends because they don't notice a new hairstyle or a super-fashionable manicure.
The concentration of attention of men is higher than that of the fairer sex. By devoting themselves entirely to any activity, men may not notice anything around them. Women, on the contrary, manage not only to do a certain job, but also to hear what a handsome colleague is talking about on the phone, and at the same time think about whether new boots will match last year's coat.
Men have a much lower pain threshold than women. Therefore, you should not be angry that a man goes to bed at the slightest sign of a cold. He’s not pretending, but he really takes the pain much harder. Scientists have proven that if a man had to endure labor pains, he would simply die from painful shock. Therefore, wise nature, having assigned the function of childbearing to a woman, gave her the opportunity to better endure pain.
Another interesting fact is that many fashionable items in women's wardrobe were first created for men. Even high-heeled shoes were exclusively masculine; they were worn by men of the nomadic tribes of Mongolia. And it was created for practical reasons; in such boots it was more convenient to stay in the stirrup.
Leggings also used to be an element of men's wardrobe. By the way, they were sewn from elk skin, which is why they got that name.
But it should be noted that men are not as sensitive to clothing issues as girls are. For example, it is unlikely that a man will be in a bad mood if at a party he notices a guy wearing exactly the same shirt as his. Probably for this reason, there are practically no things left in the men's wardrobe that women would not try on themselves.
