Forest and Wood Processing Industry Workers' Day is usually celebrated in the fall - in September. This professional holiday does not have a fixed date, because the celebration is held on the third Sunday.
history of the holiday
Forester's Day dates back to Soviet times. At the official level, the first celebrations took place in 1980, after the signing of the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
The date has symbolic meaning. It is dedicated to the publication of the Forest Legislation in 1977 and is a tribute to workers in the field. This was the first legal act regulating the handling of this type of natural resources. The document established the rules for its use, protection and reproduction.
What date is Forest Workers Day in 2022, 2023, 2024
Since the holiday falls on the third Sunday of September every year, it is worth determining in advance what date Forester’s Day will be celebrated in the coming years. This will allow everyone involved in the industry in question to prepare and plan events in advance.
So, in 2022, the holiday falls on September 18, in 2023 - on the 17th, and in 2024 - on the 15th. Again, in work teams, congratulatory meetings are usually held 2 days earlier - on Friday, which is also worth taking into account.
Holiday traditions
The tradition of the collapsed country (USSR) has been preserved in the Russian Federation. On the third Sunday of September it is customary to organize festive feasts. Those gathered offer congratulations to the heroes of the occasion. Wishes for health and success in responsible work are heard, ending with the clink of glasses. Colleagues discuss news, share plans for the future, and exchange gifts. Among them are postcards, souvenirs and themed products.
Television and radio stations broadcast programs dedicated to the industry. The role of green spaces in the ecology of the planet and the impact on human health are discussed. The main characters are the employees of procurement farms. They talk about the state of affairs, the history of development, difficulties and achievements.
Heads of enterprises and representatives of trade unions make statements in honor of the memorable date. The best employees are awarded certificates of honor and diplomas. Forest and Wood Processing Industry Workers Day 2022 in Russia is marked by traditional competitions. The winners of the competition in fire fighting, protection, dendrology (the science of woody plants) are determined, and they are awarded valuable gifts.
The importance of forest workers
In modern conditions, the importance of Forest Workers' Day increases even more, since not only the current state of forests, but also their preservation for future generations depends on their work. Employees are assigned many important functions:
- Caring for forests and maintaining them in good condition. Timely identification of diseased trees and implementation of forest health procedures.
- Restoration of the forest fund and systematic increase in plantings. This is one of the most important areas of work for every forestry enterprise. According to statistics, about 1/3 of the Earth is covered with forests, but ten years ago the rate of deforestation was catastrophic. In recent years, the trend has changed for the better.
- Organization of planting work and care of young plantings. This also includes the preparation of high-quality seedlings; this is not an easy and responsible job.
- Rational management of forest resources. Planning sanitary and logging fellings to cause minimal damage to the forest.
- Sales of wood both on the domestic and foreign markets. This is one of the most profitable import destinations, ensuring a stable supply of foreign currency and being in steady demand on the world market. And according to experts, the demand for high-quality wood will increase every year.
- Protection of forests from fires, as well as their prompt extinguishing. Another important area that becomes especially important in the summer.
By the way!
Varietal testing activities are also important; they allow the development of more unpretentious tree species, which helps accelerate forest regeneration in the country.

I wish that your forest lands will always be like a fairy tale, with kind animals, strong centuries-old trees and truly intoxicating, clean air. “On Forest Workers Day, we congratulate all foresters. We wish every conservationist the same thick wallets as the trunk of a baobab tree, birch tenderness and sweetness in personal relationships, strong and unshakable health, like a hundred-year-old oak tree. Let the magpie on your tail bring you only good news, and your career, like bamboo, grows quickly and confidently!
“Dear forest workers! Thank you all for your work. After all, your work is aimed at ensuring that nature remains harmonious, so that people can wisely use its riches, but the “lungs of the planet” remain healthy. You know all the forest paths - and I wish that the paths of your destiny will lead you where you want. You feel nature in rain, snow, and heat, and you know how to help it. So may your destinies not know droughts and frosts. May your work bring you real pleasure, give you health and longevity!

The whole world
But laws are laws, fines, criminal cases and prison sentences - all this is important and, of course, affects the state of affairs in forestry. But such measures cannot be fully effective if they are not supported by “initiative from below.” The newspaper “Krasnoe Znamya” (Abansky district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory), under the headline “There are no janitors in the forest,” called on local residents to actively participate in environmental events. “Of course, ordinary residents will not be able to cope with “black loggers” and fires; competent structures are engaged in this. But clearing out garbage dumps and planting a couple of trees is within the power of every person. The participants of the action collected several dozen bags of household garbage in the nearby forest - the tractor cart was packed to capacity.”
Such activity “on the ground” has become a good tradition and resulted in the annual all-Russian action “Save the Forest,” which has already covered 47 Russian regions. The campaign was first held in 2019. In two years, its participants planted more than 82 million trees. In the fall of 2021, the organizers of the event set a record goal of landing another 70 million.
The head of the Federal Forestry Agency, Ivan Sovetnikov, noted that in 2021, reforestation initiatives are of particular importance due to large fires in forest regions. "Rise from the ashes!" - this is how, figuratively speaking, we can formulate people’s appeal to their good neighbor and breadwinner - the Russian forest. For this revival to take place, the forest needs to be helped, supported, and healed. And we can already see that he is recovering. And together with him we recover.
Competitions
Sounds of the forest
To conduct the competition, it is necessary to prepare audio recordings of natural sounds: birdsong, the sound of a waterfall, thunder, wind, etc. The presenter takes turns turning on the recordings and invites the guests of the competition to recognize their sources. Whoever answers first gets a point. The one with the most points becomes the winner.
Marksman forester
For the competition you need to prepare cones and a target - a bucket or basket. Contestants stand at a distance from the basket and try to throw cones into it. All participants have the same number of attempts. The one who has the most hits receives the title “The Most Accurate Forester.”
Colors of rainbow
The competition involves two teams with the same number of participants - 5-7 people. The task of the competition is to find all the colors of the rainbow on the team members. The team that manages to do this the fastest wins.
