Agricultural and Processing Industry Worker's Day

From time immemorial, man cultivated the land to feed himself, his family and members of the community. The proof is provided by the tools that archaeologists still find during excavations to this day. Agricultural work has always been considered hard and remains so, despite the fact that technology comes to the aid of the farmer.

Not all regions and climatic zones have fertile soils, so farmers have to make considerable efforts to achieve a harvest. Dense forests, impenetrable swamps, insufficient water resources, an arid or too cold climate with an early winter and late arriving warmth - all these obstacles stood in the way of the first shoots, becoming an almost insurmountable obstacle that farmers were forced to fight.

In our country, agriculture has always played a leading role and, in order to draw attention to this important work, a separate holiday was established in honor of employees in this field, which is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of the second autumn month. In 2021, the solemn date falls on October 10.

FAN congratulates everyone involved and talks about the history and traditions of the Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers.

history of the holiday

The Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers dates back to Soviet times. For field workers and product manufacturers there were two separate holidays, established by Decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Changes made by the government agency led to the unification of events and the establishment of a new date for commemoration.

In Russia, the tradition of the collapsed country (USSR) was preserved, but a new day of events was determined. It became the second Sunday in October. It has symbolic meaning. From time immemorial, this time has been associated with the beginning of winter, the first frosts and the end of field work.

Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers in Russia

Agricultural and Processing Industry Worker's Day

in Russia it was established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 679 of May 31, 1999 and is celebrated annually on the second Sunday of October.

On this day, we congratulate not only workers in agriculture and the processing industry, but also all those who work on the land from dawn to dusk, without days off or holidays, grow bread and vegetables, supply milk, meat and other food products to the population. This is a holiday of field and farm workers, managers and specialists of agricultural enterprises, agricultural scientists, workers in the food and processing industry and the agro-industrial complex.

It is no secret that the agro-industrial complex is the most important component of the economy of any country, where products vital to society are produced and enormous economic potential is concentrated. In Russia, it employs almost 30% of those working in the sphere of material production, uses a fifth of production assets, and creates about a third of the gross national income. The development of the agro-industrial complex decisively determines, among other things, the level of food security of the state and the socio-economic situation in society.

Agriculture is the most important link in the agro-industrial complex and the entire national economy of the country (since it covers 75% of the population's demand for consumer goods), as well as one of the system-forming sectors of the economy. Russia's land (which accounts for 10% of the world's arable land) represents a huge productive force, where crops such as potatoes, sugar beets, grains, flax and sunflowers are mainly grown. Meat and wool and meat and dairy livestock farming are also developed in Russia.

Russian agriculture has gone through a difficult path in its development - these include numerous land reforms, collectivization, the NEP, and the transition to a market economy. Due to the ill-conceived reorganization of agriculture in the 1990s, its infrastructure suffered greatly; in most regions, farms collapsed, and many fertile lands were abandoned.

Today, agriculture, and the agro-industrial complex in general, is one of the most dynamic sectors of the Russian economy. Russia has become a leading grain power and occupies a leading position in the world in wheat exports. There are positive dynamics in other areas, such as the production of pork and poultry meat, the collection of oilseeds, sugar beets, fruits, and vegetables. Russian producers fully supply the domestic market with grain, sugar, vegetable oil, chicken meat, fish and borscht vegetables.

The state is actively investing in agriculture; measures are being taken to solve existing problems, including at the legislative level; supporting agricultural production is the most important task of the state’s economic policy.

After all, stabilizing and increasing the production of basic types of food based on the introduction of resource-saving technologies, expanding the range of products and competent government support for this industry is the key to the successful development of Russian agriculture.

Holiday traditions

The custom involves holding feasts. Not only farmers, but also their relatives and close people take part in them. Those gathered offer congratulations to the heroes of the occasion. There are wishes for health, a good harvest, and success in responsible work. Participants of the event discuss news, share their experience and plans for the future. Enterprise employees exchange gifts. These include souvenirs and themed products.

An indispensable attribute of the holiday is a sheaf of wheat, which is placed indoors. It is a symbol of fertility. Television and radio stations broadcast programs dedicated to the industry. The main characters talk about farming, lifestyle, and demonstrate equipment. On the eve of the events, competitions and exhibitions are organized.

The Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers in 2022 is marked by speeches by top officials of the state and officials of the relevant ministry. Their speeches highlight the important role of the industry, its successes and problems.

In their honor, folk festivals, concerts, feasts with colleagues and loved ones are organized, exhibitions and fairs of agricultural products are held, where everyone can appreciate the fruits of the labor of those people who devoted themselves to agriculture and the processing industry.

Perhaps the best gift will be something that will allow you to properly rest after everyday work, forget about work at least for a while and relax. Saplings and seeds. Saplings and seeds of ornamental or fruit plants will serve as a wonderful gift that will allow you to add new species to your plot.

Who celebrates the holiday?

Crafts related to the cultivation and extraction of food products were the first that man learned. After all, people are not able to live without food. The usual hunting and fishing was supplemented by the cultivation of cultivated plants and the breeding of domestic animals.

Over time, subsistence farming began to be replaced by new methods of farming. But trade and industry, construction and the service industry could not overshadow the importance of rural labor.

In Russia, the agricultural industry has had to go through a difficult path. Farmers are familiar with the results of numerous land reforms firsthand. The peasants survived both collectivization and the NEP. Residents of the villages had no rights for a long time and simply worked for workdays. Agriculture was not undermined by the transition to a market economy and new forms of ownership.

Despite all the ups and downs, changes in politics and economics, the day of an agricultural worker always began at dawn. After all, ripened harvests and hungry livestock cannot wait until officials decide how to get rid of pressing problems in the countryside and improve the lives of people working on the land.

Under the influence of ill-conceived reorganizations, many collective farms collapsed. Fertile lands are overgrown with weeds, and the number of livestock has decreased by an order of magnitude.

Only thanks to new reforms and investments, agriculture received a new round of development. Huge amounts of money are being invested in the development of the industry, and this has yielded tangible results.

At the end of 2013, the volume of output reached the pre-perestroika level. In addition, the quality has significantly improved, and losses from storage and transportation are reduced to a minimum.

Thanks to dynamic growth, agriculture took a leading position in 2015 in increasing output. And imports of products have been reduced almost threefold over the past 3-4 years. Exports of agricultural products, on the contrary, have increased sixfold over the decade.

In 2021, for the first time in the last half century, Russia ranks first in wheat exports in the world, displacing the Americans from the pedestal.

Who will we congratulate on Agricultural Worker's Day in 2019? The industry employs 10% of the country's population. So millions of citizens consider the holiday their professional one.

These are, first of all, ordinary workers of farms and fields - workers who plow and sow, mow and thresh, water and fertilize from dawn to dusk, without days off or holidays. Their caring hands look after living creatures, pick berries, and harvest crops in the fields.

These are management personnel and specialists who ensure the uninterrupted operation of agricultural farms. These are reindeer herders, beekeepers, and workers involved in warehousing, transportation, and processing of agricultural products.

Competitions

Catch phrases The presenter invites the competition participants to remember sayings and proverbs about agriculture. The one who reproduces the most catchphrases will win the competition.

From the garden to the table To conduct the competition, you need to prepare unpeeled potatoes, cleaning tools and a container. Participants in the competition must clear as many tubers as possible within the allotted time. After the time has expired, the competitors count the potatoes. Whoever has more of them becomes the winner.

Cinderella To hold the competition you need to mix buckwheat and peas (or other cereals). Participants receive an equal amount of the mixture and must divide the cultures at speed. The one who completes the task first wins.

About the profession

The basis of healthy human nutrition is natural products. Their cultivation, cultivation, and soil cultivation have become an industry and an important sector of the economy. For a significant part of the population, this is the only source of income.

Farmers are engaged in cultivating land, growing crops and their further processing. Their responsibilities include applying plant protection products, fertilizing crop areas, and operating equipment. It allows you to quickly complete all the preparatory work and harvest the crop, which is sent for further processing by factories and food processing plants.

The path to the profession begins with studying at a higher or secondary specialized educational institution. The graduate must be able to maintain and operate equipment. In Russia, the labor of workers in agriculture and the processing industry is often low-productivity due to the backward level of mechanization. The development of the industry is slowed down by weather risks and the lack of adequate government support in terms of investment and taxation.

Story

The history of the event dates back to Soviet times, when two agricultural industries merged, which became the basis for moving the date of the celebration. Reclamation Day and Agricultural Worker Day were combined into one, but after the collapse of the union, many states tried to abolish the celebration.

Russia had to overcome many difficulties encountered on the way to the development of the agricultural industry, but through the introduction of modern reforms and the hard work of agricultural workers, the country reached a new level of economic development. That is why representatives of this industry are deservedly honored on the day of special events.
